We stayed at this rental property for 10 days and we were not at all happy with our experience.
Firstly the owner will only deal in cash and wanted me to post our deposit to her in an envelope (I should have realised then that she was an amateur) but either way we ended up booking anyway as it was the only property located in Long Beach that suited our needs, or so we thought.
When we arrived we found that it is not ‘oceanfront’ it is located on a residential street and you can walk over to the beach, it’s not far admittedly but the impression the website gives is that you are actually there on the beach facing the ocean. Secondly there are not the 3 bathrooms that are stated on the itinery, there are 2- One is the main bathroom upstairs and the other is a tiny shower downstairs next to the utility room.
The bedrooms are over exaggerated too. The master bedroom did have double closets but they are taped up so you cannot use them, and the small room states there is a double bed but really it is an extremely uncomfortable camp bed.
We paid a substanstial security deposit and a few days before we were due to leave I E-Mailed the owner asking if she was going to call to drop it off before we left. I was informed she was in Puerto Rico and would post me the money when she got back.
When we got back I received an E-Mail saying that the frame on the back door was bent (which to my knowledge it wasn’t, and if it was it wasn’t done by us) and that the light switch in the dining room wasn’t working (which was true but it had been faulty when we arrived) The owner then proceeded to let me know that she was sending me less than half my deposit back as it had cost her a large amount to repair the light switch (yea right – my husband is an electrician) and another large amount to fix the bent door frame. If the owner was professional she would have been in town when we were leaving and come to check over the house and return the deposit before we left. We had no way of proving to her that whatever ‘damage’ she was saying had been done was not us and she already had our money so our hands were tied.
We are a group of 6 adults and our average age is over 50- We treated the house as we would our own and this is the thanks we get.
All in all I would steer well clear of this property and it’s owner - It’s not what you’d expect and the owner is not at all trustworthy and is definately not someone I would ever want to do business with again.
Owner's Response: To my prospective tenants,
Please note that I have been renting my property in Lido Beach and Rincon, PR for at least six years. More recently with Homeaway.com.
I have always had respectful, happy, repeat tenants. My properties are beautiful, peaceful, and no more than 100 feet to the ocean.
I return your security deposit after your departure as I need time to inspect the home and bring in the cleaning crew.
Additional photos are always available upon request.
Each bedroomn and each bathroom is lovely and comfortable with plenty of room for clothing.
Come and enjoy, Barbara
