The Americana Log Cabin sits nestled in the woods on a five acre lot on the North Lubec Peninsula. The cabin shares private access to a secluded beach with two other log cabins, each set apart in their own wooded nooks for privacy. This nearly new cabin has all the modern conveniences— well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washer and dryer, 1 full bath, and 2 bedrooms. Satellite TV and local phone service means you can stay in touch with the outside world (but only if you want to!). A gas log stove keeps the cabin cozy on chilly nights. Ceiling fans keep it comfortable on warm days. Lawn furniture and gas grill provide outdoor living area. All bed and bath linen provided. Sorry, no smoking indoors. Well behaved children and small dogs welcome with prior approval, additional damage deposit (refundable at end of stay), and additional rental fee.

The Lubec area is host to three state parks, a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well maintained hiking trails. Lubec has several sandy beaches (rare this far Down East), bold coastal cliffs, coastal rain forest, wildflower meadows, and peat bogs. Lubec’s West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country. Lighthouse lovers can visit 4 lighthouses within 10 miles of Lubec. Local whale, wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up close or you can rent a kayak or canoe to explore both salt and fresh water havens. You can also golf, visit local galleries and craft shops, attend concerts, and visit local festivals. The area is rich in history—from the first naval battle of the Revolutionary to Maine's own 'Cannery Row' which lined the waterfronts of the Downeast coast. You'll find it all here—rich history, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people.

    Small dogs considered. Please add $50/wk pet fee.
    $350 per week refundable deposit ($400/week with a pet) required when placing reservation. This deposit acts as a reservation deposit to secure your reservation until your stay begins. Once you arrive, it becomes a damage deposit during your stay. Your damage deposit is refundable when your stay is over.
    Rent payment is due 6 weeks in advance. Contact me for reservation details and cancellation policy.

  • Lodging Tax is 7% until June 1. It might go up to 8.5% in June. Tax rate in effect at time of stay will apply.

Folks, let's get right down to it. This cabin was perfect, all the amenities, fabulously fun decorated and more than advertised. If you could find a fault with this little tucked away gem, then you are impossibly demanding.

Anyone who is willing to venture to the eastern edges of the U.S. should consider renting this property.

You are going to love Jack and Ellen at Cohill's Inn in downtown Lubec. The food is tres bien, the desserts tasty and the drinks, well. . . . . .. A must do is the trip to Great Seal Island with Capt Andy Patterson out of Cutler to see the Puffins. Campobello Island, where FDR's summer home is located, also has some lovely beaches for strolling and rock collecting. Hiking to the Bold Coast or Boot Cove is gentle and rewarding. Eastport was great for sailing on a schooner and dinner at the "Pickled Herring." A day trip to St Andrews in New Brunswick is a must. Oh, did I mention the Ruggles House (1820) in Columbia Falls (what a magnificent staircase)?

Also in Lubec, Kibby's and Murphys are good places to eat.

We may never get back, but we will remember the wonderful two weeks we spent at Americana Log Cabin.
