Our two storied screened in casita is located right on the beach with a beautiful outdoor Mayan stone patio. Downstairs room has a double bed and bath and upstairs large room has two double beds and a beautiful view. Outside are an additional bath and shower. New outdoor kitchen with utensils, gas stove, and cooler are available if you want to cook. Our new casita , Casita Limon, is now available. Nestled in the sea grapes and palms, this new room contains a queen bed with space for a cot or crib. Included is a full bath. The room is connected to a large palapa with a camp kitchen. Another new small room that sleeps two also connects to the palapa. A large tent is available for additional sleeping space. Please contact owner for availability. Large groups may want to rent both cabanas to sleep eight to ten people.

Location: Tulum in Mexico

Nearest Airport: Cancun at 70 Miles
Tulum is located one and a half hours south of Cancun. The town is about five to ten minutes from the beach. On the north end of town is the famous Tulum Maya ruins with its spectacular setting over the ocean. Going south on the beach road are many beautiful beaches, spas, and restaurants leading to the Sian Kaan bioreserve. The reserve has bird watching, kayaking, and fishing in the huge lagoon as well as numerous beautiful beaches for exploring. Various cenotes, fresh water pools, are spotted around the area. They are fun for swimming, snorkeling, and exploration. North of Tulum you can explore caves at Hidden Worlds or enjoy Xel-Ha or Xcaret, large theme and water parks. A reef runs along the beach offering great snorkeling just a short boat ride off the beach. Heading west away from town are more Maya ruins at Coba as well as the charming Gran Cenote. Tulum offers many restaurants and shops as well as a thriving modern Mayan culture.

Notes: We have a kayak, paddle and life jackets for adults and children. We have buggy boards for riding waves and some children's beach toys. You can relax on the beach chairs with an umbrella or lounge in hammocks under the trees. The camp kitchen is outdoors on a stone patio with a large table for eating. Basic cooking and eating utensils are provided. All linens and towels are provided. Please do not use blankets on the beach. Mosquito nets are available if desired.

This gorgeous Carribean beach is great for fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling. Kayak is provided with the rental and boogie boards available also. The casitas are within walking distance of many spas and restaurants. A few miles north and south are the famous Tulum Mayan ruins and the Sian Kaan Bioshpere with its beautiful beaches and lagoons for fishing, kayaking, birdwatching and swimming. Other attractions include Hidden Worlds, a famous site for cave diving and snorkeling, and Xel-Ha, a wonderful place to bring your family for a day of snorkeling on a beautiful lagoon. Visit the Gran Cenote not far out of town and many other cenotes that dot the area. They are fun for freshwater swimming and snorkeling.

Tulum is wonderful, with just enough going on.
The Casita Tortugita is more rustic in some "rooms" then any of us imagined but after a few days we got in to it and loved our time there. The camp kitchen is exactly that: like camping. There's 2 gas burners, a sink and a bunch of old dishes and pans, yet it turns out that's just what you need. There happens to be a french press though and that was wonderful. There's a small fridge that doesn't have power so it functions as a cabinet. The whole place is powered by wind so keep your eye on electricity. Downstairs bedroom is lovely. The main bathroom, also nice, is inside of it. Great for those staying downstairs but anyone upstairs has to come through the downstairs bedroom, or they can use the outhouse-type bathroom which has a sink and toilet.
Good to know in advance: All communal space is outdoors! Eating area, hanging area and "kitchen". This means if it is raining or cold you are cramming in a bedroom together to hang out. If the weather is good it is great to be outside which is part of why you are there in the first place. The view CANNOT be beat. This oceanfront property is real sweet but not for the guests that need frills. Snugly nested between 2 hotel/guesthouses it is the only spot we saw like it.
The owner is a man of few words so here a few extra things you may want to know: when reaching Tulum you turn at the traffic light. It's the only one and it comes up before you are in the center of town. It is ont eh side of the road not hanging above and could be hard to miss. Watch out for the speedbumps on the highway and scattered (seemingly randomly) throughout; they are intense and called "toupees". Consider bring your own pillow if you can. It was cold while we were there during a storm and the folks staying upstairs in the thatched room were quite chilly. The beach culture in Tulum is chill, which makes it wonderful to visit and means you will not necessarily be attended to as quickly as you think.
All in all it was a great spot and we are planning to stay there again.
