In the fabled Peloponnese! Just 3 1/2 hours by car from Athens, the drive filled with memorable sites, and you're in the charming port town of Gythion. Twenty minutes more and you're in magical, mythical Mani and the little village of Konakia. From our grandfather Barba Yorgo's house you look out on Konakia and the mountains beyond. Thick hewn-stone walls, cypress beams, bamboo ceilings, wide-plank pine floors--Barba Yorgo's house has all the elements of a traditional country house, with the convenience of up-to-date plumbing and wiring, modern appliances. The house has two separable apartments (each with full bath and fireplace) connected by an interior staircase. There are ceiling fans, verandas and balconies, a garden and olive grove, outdoor tables, umbrellas and barbecue, parking--a perfect getaway for families, writers, artists--you name it. Off the beaten path but only a short drive to beaches, tavernas, cafes, shops, sightseeing (eg,Diro Caves, Monemvasia, Vathia village).

What a delightful place to stay! We had a fabulous time, around the local area and deep into the Mani. It is so well positioned for visits to Sparti and Monemvasia and also the wonderful caves. The house itself is very spacious, with a large garden and lovely roof terrace, and the rural tranquillity is a delight.

A lovely hideaway

This is a very well appointed and maintained property in a very peaceful location. It provided us with a lovely base from which to tour the Mani peninsula and its beautiful beaches. I would not recommend the property to families with young children - the stairs to the mezzanine were very steep - but for people seeking a very quiet location with stunning views, it would be hard to find a better alternative.

We just returned from a very peaceful week at this home. Very well equiped,beautiful house and wonderful surroundings we were 5 and plenty of room and privacy. Coffee on the upper balcony every morning was a treat with the views are beautiful
can not praise the house enough. we will return
