Cottage Rental: 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 4 in Pacific Grove

The Mermaid Retreat is a delightful little surprise just 78 steps from the bay at Lover's Point. Beautifully decorated with whimsical mermaid collectibles, it has all the comforts of home, such as a fully stocked kitchen, WIFI, DVDs, washer and dryer, and a secluded deck with barbeque. Perfect for a couple or for a family like us with one child and a dog. Rambunctious kids could brake the lovely figurines and knick knacks. This is better than a hotel any day!

My husband I and stayed here 5-6 years ago and we had a great time. Just as everyone has said, it's very close to the water (a block or two away), very quiet and cozy. We had everything we needed for our stay. We had a special situation with an elderly pet that was preventing us from leaving home for 3 years. But we were able to bring her with us to the Mermaid, for which we were very grateful. We needed the time away. I don't remember too many details, but the pictures shown here on the site are very acurate and the owners were next door if we needed anything.

I would definitely recommend this to any friends or relatives that need some time away and enjoy the California Coast.

We (a family consisting of myself, my partner and our two daughters aged 16 and 21) spent Christmas week at Mermaid's retreat. This was the middle week of a 3 week trip spent travelling and was the perfect place to chill. The cottage is delightful and beautifully maintained and well appointed. It was warm, cosy and comfortable. Pacific Grove has so much to offer for all age groups. We all enjoyed the aquarium, plus the fantastic abundance of wildlife in the area (sea otters, seals, sea lions, pelicans, humming birds, mermaids...). The local shops and the Monterey shopping mall met the needs of 2 young women wanting souvenirs and american clothes. We all loved the new shop selling sustainable clothes in P Grove itself. The scenery is wonderful. We walked most places, too. Barry and Elizabeth (the owners) were lovely - helpful and concerned for our comfort (Thank you!). I would certainly recommend Mermaid's Retreat.
