Wonderful holiday

My wife and I decided to go on holiday to St Lucia as a very last minute thing. Thankfully we ended up renting Villa Darcy, primarily on the strength of the reviews. We absolutely loved our stay and left after 2 weeks very much regretting that we couldn't stay for another two.
The villa itself is a clean and simple cottage, with good sized rooms and very welcome air-conditioning in the bed-rooms. The pool is small, but very very nice; I can honestly say that slipping into it was sheer heaven, warm and relaxing and very private.
The most wonderful aspect of the villa is its location. It is in the middle of a row of three villas in a tiny cul de sac. The neighbouring buildings are well to either side and barely visible and the feeling is very much one of splendid isolation. You have a view across the whole of Cap Estate, with other villas visible in the distance and the Caribbean twinkling and sparkling in the sunshine and Pigeon Island beckoning on the horizon. The sunsets can be spectacular, although unfortunately there is no dawn view. During the day the peace and quiet are wonderful, whereas at night the crickets throw out a symphony (or perhaps a cacophony) of noise.
Marieta is the maid and is a very lovely lady who quite obviously takes pride in looking after her guests and she made us feel very welcome indeed.
Anneke is the owner and unlike many others will remain in touch, not just before you go, but also during and after the stay.
Renting a car is a must and 4 wheel drive is highly recommended as the roads are poor. However, St Lucia has loads to offer and 2 weeks was barely enough to scratch the surface. Local shopping is very good in Rodney Bay and some of the restaurants are simply fantastic; I would particularly recommend The Edge in Rodney Bay, as well as The Cliff restaurant at Cap Maison. Although I suspect this is of less interest to many, we attended church on two occasions in near-by Gros Islet and the parishioners of St Joseph the Worker literally welcomed us with open arms.
All in all we would dearly love to return to Villa Darcy in the future, as we felt very much home from home there.
I would certainly recommend Villa Darcy to anyone visiting St Lucia.
