House Rental: 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4 in Kennebunkport

Our family of 6 adults plus 2 granddaughters spent a magical week celebrating my 60th birthday at the charming, historic Oliver Davis House. Family time was enjoyed in the lovely hydrangea-filled garden, gathered in the comfortable living room, and walking to town to take in the outstanding restaurants, galleries and shops. The warmth and convenience of the Oliver Davis House was so captivating to me that I was back in Kennebunkport within 2 weeks purchasing our own family home around the corner! Our family will never forget the fond memories of staying in the Oliver Davis House.

You’ve seen the pictures. You’ve absorbed all the adjectives in the web site narrative. But it’s really only seconds after you open the front door that, with a huge sigh of relief, you quickly realize that you’ve made the perfect choice for where you and your family & friends will be relaxing for the next week or two.

This historic home, tucked just 3 minutes from downtown, has nooks, comfy down couches, wide pine floors, fireplaces, outside tables with umbrellas, tasteful lush gardens, fluffy towels, ottomans for books, magazines, PCs or flip-flopped feet. What I appreciated the most is that there’s a place for everyone to do what they want to, whether that’s inside or outside the home. This house makes entertaining and relaxing very easy. (If you love lobsters but don’t want to spend time cooking them, ask the Owners about where you can have them cooked and cracked – and you just pick them up, all ready to eat!)

The house, filled with antiques and the Owners’ various collections, is immaculately clean and immediately welcoming. There’s a sense of pride in the home that the Owners enjoy sharing with their repeat guests. You’ll hear lots of “oohs and ah’s” as you move throughout the main house and adjacent carriage house. This home could easily be on an HGTV segment entitled, “ How to Make Your Guests feel at Home.” Lots of TVs, cook books and classic CDs.

What I enjoyed the most was the proximity to downtown, just a 3 minute stroll - the great restaurants serving “lobsta chowda,” art galleries, shops and stores to pick –up coffee or the Sunday NYTs.

Don’t expect to be dancing til 3 AM, however, kids. This sleepy town rolls its sidewalks up about 10 PM. Kennebunkport is also an excellent spot for those who want to take a day trip to Kittery, Bath, Freeport, Camden or Boston.

Probably best suited to Empty Nesters or Baby Boomer couples but couples with children are fine, too.

I have stayed at the Oliver Davis House several times. This home has been tastefully restored and decorated. At first look I was worried about all the white, thinking this could be a cold feeling home. I was not there for very long before I was wrapped in the warmth and comfort of this home. I have slept in every room of this house, including the guest cottage. The fireplace in the master bedroom adds such ambiance and romance to the room. These owners know how to make the perfect bed and these are the most comfortable beds I have slept in. The backyard is a relaxing oasis, there is something in bloom for 3 seasons, the hydrangeas, when in bloom are magnificent. The Christmas holiday brings white lights and Christmas trees into the yard. This house is conveniently located within steps of the village shops and restaurants. Also is within a 10 minute drive to 3 or 4 different beaches. Walkers Point (the Bush’s residence) is a glorious 2 mile walk along Ocean Ave and rocky coast of Maine. You will not be disappointed. Bring the spouse or the entire family. You will not be disappointed.
