Cedarwood Lodge is a mountain cabin, situated on eight forested acres, nestled in the Moshannon State Forest. The Lodge has three bedrooms, one of which is a loft overlooking the kitchen, dining room, and living room. There is ample space for sleeping bags. The dining table seats 12. The Lodge is completely equipped including linens, dishes, pots and pans, a microwave, a gas cook stove and gas grill, a coffee maker, toaster, TV/VCR with family movies (no TV reception), phone, wood burning stove/fireplace, and a full bath with a tub and shower. Guests need only bring clothes and food. Homemade bread, and sweet rolls or muffins are provided for your first morning's breakfast. Coffee and tea are always available. Deer, turkey, foxes, and an occasional bear can be observed making their way past the Lodge. The Lodge is unique in that no other buildings or roads can be seen from the property -- just the gravel lane which dead ends past the cabin.

Twelve miles from Clearfield, PA and DuBois, PA; Thirty miles from Punxsutawney, PA, home of Groundhog Day and Punxsutawney Phil on Gobbler's Knob. It is easily accessible from the main highway, yet completely private and secluded. The Lodge is a great place for family get-togethers, a romantic get-away for two, or a gathering of friends. Some comments from our guests: '...But the best things were the walks along the logging roads, beaver ponds, flowers starting to bloom, and the peace and tranquility of the backwoods.' Chuck and Lori - newlyweds Although there is not onsite swimming, the cabin is located 2 miles from two state parks which have swimming, boating, nature center, hiking trails of all degrees of length and difficulty. There are beaver dams within walking distance of the cabin.

Being at this cabin was so relaxing it was like you were actually at your own home. It had everything you could possible need at the cabin. Dubois and Clearfield being near by allowed you to step out and get a bite to eat if like to eat out. We were able to snowmobile right from the cabin how convenient. The fire at night just put you to sleep. Can not wait to go back.

Cedarwood Lodge, Clearfield, Pa.

We have rented many vac homes around the states. Cedarwood is reasonably priced. It was clean but the sidewalk was covered with snow and downed limb in driveway. The owner was very curtious and gave us privacy through our stay. The loft bedroom entrance is very hard to manuver with luggage and our bodies. I would not reconmend to anyone over 50 or with small children. The heating stove is very close to the walking area in the living room. The straight up ladder to the loft should be replaced with a spiral staircase coming off the dining area. The bunkbeds in the second bedroom have no ladder and are hard to get to top bunk. The commode was loose at the base but worked fine. The mantels in the gas lights need replaced in case the electric goes out. The road into the cabin needs trimmed back and directions posted on the road. We weren't sure we were going on a real road when we got there.

The good things are the privacy, courtesy, reasonable price and walking trails in the woods. We loved the antique store in downtown Clearfield on Market street.

We did go to Bennezette and saw many elk up close. It is only 16 miles away.

Because of the loft entrance and heating stove we will not be returning to this vacation rental.
Owner's Response: I am sorry there was snow on the ramp leading to the cabin entrance. My assistant shoveled the snow and spread "ice melt" when she came up to the cabin to put in the loaf of homemade whole wheat bread and banana bread and do final prep. Evidently there was more snowfall after she left & before your arrival. I assume the tree limb fell due to the weight on branches that had not yet lost their leaves. Oct 16-17 was the earliest seasonal snowfall recorded.

The loft ladder leans forward at a 20 degree angle, with treads that are 24" by 5" deep, designed to minimize the space needed to effect entry to the loft. Guests have said they enjoy the adventure - one stated it brought back memories of childhood tree houses.

The frame at the foot of the bunk bed is designed to serve as the ladder to access the top bunk.

We have stopped replacing the gas light mantles as people invariably touch them while trying to light them causing them to disintegrate. Instead oil lamps are provided which are simpler to operate than the gas lights. There is a backup propane generator for electricity in case of an outage.

The wood burner is located at the far end of the living room in the corner several feet from any walking area. Anyone concerned about the stove, need not make a fire in it as there are adequate gas heaters.

My "Welcome" note states - "I would appreciate notification if you find anything that is not working correctly or items in need of repair." This is my first report of a toilet malady via internet review two weeks after the guests departed. Although the two sets of guests who stayed after the reviewers have not mentioned the toilet being loose, I will have the toilet checked out by my plumber asap.

The cabin is near the end of a private lane, 2/10ths of a mile from the main road. The lane is 10 ft.wide with trees & forest vegetation on either side. There is nothing to impede a vehicle traveling through. A detailed map is provided to each guest. It is by design that there are no directions posted on the road. There is no through traffic on the lane and none is desired. Posting directions would attract the curious and reduce the privacy & seclusion of guests.

We have guests of all ages, who come back yearly, some several times a year. Pictures of the lane, wood stove location, etc. available upon request. For persons with physical limitations, checking with the owner in advance would be advisable.

Cedarwood Lodge, PA Getaway in the woods

This well equipped cabin in the woods in central Pennsylvania proved to be a comfortable and convenient getaway for a gathering of this OH grandma and grandpa with our daughter and her 4 year and 2 year old daughters from the NYC area. It is a nice midway gathering point. We felt confident that the facilities would be as described, having used the Durants' lovely bed and breakfast on earlier occasions; and they were ideal for 2 active toddlers. The loft bedroom was a getaway within the getaway--for grandma and grandpa when needed, but the children liked visiting it, too. The open kitchen, dining and living room space made for easy interactions and multiple activities without crowding--and the surrounding woods were easy to view from various angles inside or to get out into for easy or more demanding hikes we took.
Cedarwood Lodge is a good meld of being away from the pressures of city living (i.e, no cell phone or TV reception) but having enough conveniences to care for and do things with active toddlers like bake cupcakes, heat up cocoa in the microwave, or view a video.

Cedarwood Lodge is a great getaway

We enjoyed a wonderful three-night stay at the Cedarwood Lodge recently. The accommodations were clean, beautiful, and more than we expected. Although we had some problems locating the proper driveway on our way in, a quick phone call to the very pleasant owner got us back on track. The huge forested lot was a great place to explore during the beautiful autumn season in Pennsylvania. I would most certainly recommend this location to a friend, and I hope to return myself next year.
Owner's Response: One of the charms of Cedarwood Lodge is the privacy afforded by its location near the end of a lane that dead-ends in Pennsylvania's Moshannon State Forest. Although a detailed, hand-drawn map is provided to our incoming guests, first-time guests sometimes mistake the entrance off the highway onto the lane for a private driveway and are understandably cautious about entering and proceeding to the cabin.

Although I always try to alert my guests to this prior to their arrival, sometimes an assurance and encouragement as they approach the cabin for the first time is still needed.
