This is a no-frills, no amenities, come and stay at my place with all my stuff kind of place. Much like staying at a friends house for the weekend - but not a good friend. Note the two signs on the stocked fridge that its contents was 'private' and to only use it for our OWN food (we opted not to use the kitchen at all except for a few dishes). The bathroom was cluttered with the owner's bathroom things so we had to put ours on window sills and on the floor and we hung towels over chairs to dry. The other rooms (bedroom, living room) were nice enough although the pull out couch they advertise is broken.
Upon our arrival Neil was helpful with suggestions for restaurants. Although like most locals (and I am like this in my hometown, too) he knows where things are, not necessarily how to tell people how to get there..so be sure to bring a map.
Don't expect privacy here, I'm told there are eight units in here and everything everyone does or talks about in this building can be heard. We were treated to an hours-long fight between the couple below us-- We now know all the ways the F-word can be used in a sentence...and we thank you for that.
We were happy to have discovered a certain charm in the neighborhood -- tho an ability to speak fluent Spanish would have been helpful. There's a good bakery and a couple of good restaurants w/in walking distance... and we found everyone we dealt with in the neighborhood to be extremely friendly and helpful.
The main reason to choose this property is if your goal is to visit the city and you don't plan to spend too much time in the actual unit. The ferry is a 5 minute walk and it runs every half hour... and the subway system is easy to use and access to it is steps from the ferry on the Manhattan side.... this location is cheaper than staying in the city; as it should be.
We've stayed at other "Home Away' advertised properties where the owners were expecting guests. These owners are not, they are merely allowing you to pay them stay in their place...'as is'
