Just 15 miles north is the village of Kailua, where you can charter a dive boat, parasail, eat at a world-class restaurant, enjoy a cocktail on the ocean at sunset, or frequent one of the many local nightclubs. Shopping opportunities are abundant, and so is the local 'Aloha' spirit. Don't miss the local farmers market for ripe papaya, pineapple, colorful anthyriums and orchids, sun-dried Kona coffee, and the freshest fresh fish catch of the day.
Local beaches include a black sand beach that is sheltered by a majestic pali (cliff) to the north, and an ancient heiau (temple) to the east. A white sandy beach shaded by coconut palms makes an inviting spot for gathering coral and seashells.
