Chez Joly is a large house with an enclosed veranda (100 m2), which is quietly located on a slope near the village (500 m). The pool (8 x 4 m) is fenced in for safety reasons and is located behind the house in a large sunny meadow. You can use the grounds of 9000m2. The water in the swimming-pool is warm enough to bath from the beginning of May to the end of September. The house is ideal if you look for some quite days without the noise of a town. You - and your cat or dog if you have one - will appreciate not to care about passing cars. Behind the house starts the forest in the direction of the village is the small river Bandiat.

Javerlhac, in the 'Parc naturel régional Perigord-Limousin', is a village, which has several small shops, as well as a 15th century castle, two oil mills, a former royal forge, a 12th century chapel as well as an 11th century chapel. A cave with illustrations can be explored in Teyjat. The nearest small town is Nontron, the next bigger city Angouleme with its comic strip museum. You can easily visit the caves and castles of the Dordogne, the towns Perigueux, Cognac where you will like to taste Cognac and Pineau, Limoges with famous china manufactories and a cathedral. In Brantome, the Venice of Perigord, and other towns you will find good restaurants, where you can taste the famous cuisine of the Perigord (foie gras, truffle). Don't forget to go to the market of Piegut-Pluviers every wednesday, discover forests and small rivers and their particularities (they simply disappear in the ground), romanesque architecture, or the sites where Richard Lionheart (Duke of Aquitaine) went through.

Weather: We have as much sunshine hours as the Provence. The summer is warm , mostly between 25°C and 28°C, rarely more than 30°C.We have little wind and hardley any rain in the summer months. Sprinf and automn are unstable but mild better adapted to walking-tours than the summer. The climate permits wine culture as well as teh culture of tomatoes, aubergines, peaches, melons and other fruit needing heat and sunshine.

Dogs: Dogs are welcome and often seen guests. But you have to know that the garden is not totally fenced in. The next small road is 500 meters away, all around are fields, forest and the river.

Sport: Hiking: The green Perigord has a small population and you can walk for hours without seeing anyone. Archery : If you are interested, the landlord can introduce you in the art of instinctive bow shooting (field archery).

Other Activities: Go carts, field-archery, ultralight aircraft

Wier haben den Urlaub in diesem Haus nach 3 Tagen abgebrochen und sind am 4. Tag enttäuscht und wütend nach Hause gefahren. Die Haushaltsgeräte ( Backofen, Spülmaschine) sind total verdreckt, die Tiolettensitze sind lose, im Bad stehen scharfkantige Fliesenteile von der Wand, die Fäkaliengrube vor dem Bade- und Schlafzimmerfenster machen ein Lüften dieser Räume unmöglich, die Betten sind total verfleckt und die Korkplatten im Bad hängen herunter. Alles in allem die wohl schlechteste Unterkunft, die man sich für seinen Urlaub wünschen kann. Wir wollten keine Luxusunterkunft, aber etwas Hygiene wäre angebracht.

Der Urlaub war alles andere als erholend oder gemütlich.Das ganze Haus roch und war,ersichtlich im Badezimmer, schimmelig.Der größte Teil der Einrichtungsgegenstände war sehr ungepflegt und nicht mehr zu benutzen.Der angegebene Fernseher war noch nicht einmal vorhanden und der drahtlose DSL-Anschluss funktionierte nur bedingt.Den unzähligen Ameisen, die sich ihren Weg durch die Küche bahnten,konnte man nur mit wiederkehrendem Einsatz von Insekten-Spray Einhalt gebieten.Dieses Haus kann man nicht weiterempfehlen und ich würde jedem, der einen erholsamen und sauberen Urlaub erleben möchte, von diesem Haus abraten.
Owner's Response: Neue Antwort Mai 2009. Das Bad wurde im Winter vollkommen renoviert, unter anerem wurde die Badewanne durch eine Dusche ersetzt. Bilder auf der persönlichen Homepage (Suchbegriff Chez Joly, Dordogne oder Link auf Anfrage). Der Internetanschluss ist eine Gratisserviceleistung. Leider stürzte er früher des öfteren ab, obwohl wir ein Abo bei France Telcom hatten. Nachdem wir 2009 den Anbieter wechselten, scheint das sehr selten zu werden. Langsam ist das DSL trotzdem. Wifi und Fernseher werden in unserem Feriendomizil kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt. Aber es steht leider nicht in unser Macht, France Telecom davon zu überzeugen, völlig veraltete Kabel gegen moderne Glasfaser auszutauschen, die eine schnellere und stabilere Internetverbindung gewährleisten würden. - Auf dem Lande ist in unserer schönen Gegend wirklich Land, also gibt es auch keine Firmen, die Druck ausüben könnten, damit unsere Gäste immer einen Internet- und Handyanschluss haben.
Was den Fernseher betrifft: die Familie hat ausdrücklich im Vertrag angegeben, dass sie Keinen Fernseher wünschte, so dass wir ihr keinen aufgezwungen haben. Ameisen gibt es auf dem Land immer mal wieder, wie auch Spinnen und sonstige Insekten. Gegen Ameisen gibt es gute Spezialmittel (kein Breitbandinsektenspray).
