Masia Girona is a historic farmhouse and fortified rectory (ermita) set in the countryside of Catalunya between Girona, Figueres and the exquisite medieval village of Besalu. Now faithfully restored, its owners have used traditional building materials and techniques whenever possible while still assuring modern comforts, thus creating a superb and welcoming home. The three main buildings are clustered around an open courtyard, one side of it framed by a long roofed loggia. The open-plan kitchen/dining area and living room open onto the garden, and a second informal TV/living room leads to the pool terrace. The adjacent chapel (dating from about 1200AD) has a soaring vault and has been dramatically reconfigured as a second living/dining room with a mezzanine games room/library. Across the courtyard, the annex has two air-conditioned bedrooms with private bathrooms and terraces. Outside are well-maintained grounds with neat flowerbeds, lawns and a pond with a small island.
