Palinuro holiday apartment

We travelled here after spending two weeks in Puglia and to be honest, we were very disappointed with the apartment.

The photos looked very nice with a lovely swimming pool and a table tennis table. In fact, the pool was not clean and the caretakers spent three days to clean it so that you can see the bottom of it. There was a table tennis table but it was covered in dust/rust(no net) and didn't look being used for a long time. Football table was there,too but it was rusty and broken. Barbeque area was dirty and some wine bottles were left.
The garden looked overgrown but during our one week stay(decided to shorten it from 10 days), the caretakers tidied up the trees and it looked a bit better.
We have two small children but there was nowhere they could play safely.

The caretaker/receptionist spoke no English but he was helpful when we asked for help. We got the impression he and his mates only started making this place nicer after we got there.

The apartment was damp and smelly. There was no mosquito nets on the window so we had to kill dozens of flies before we went to bed. Most ceiling lights were just bare bulbs even in the bathroom. The garden chairs were cushioned so when we had rain(and we had a lot of it),they got soaked. One night while we stayed somewhere else, it must have rained so heavily the rain water leaked through to one of the bedrooms.

This place is in the middle of nowhere but has a gate at the entrance with a small reception hut next to it so you feel a bit safer but after a few days, we were told to park outside the gate(I guess the caretaker has to open/close the gate everytime we go out) and I was very uncomfortable to leave our car 50m away out of our sight.

Overall, we were very unhappy with this apartment. It must have been a nice place long time ago but we think the whole place is well overdue for modernising. We contacted the owner but the ACTUAL owner doesn't speak English and we cannot make a complaint nor get the money back.
