Offering grand style and the latest comforts within an extensive 200-acre estate, Bastide de Lavande deserves any manner of superlatives. Built in 1746, this superb Haut Provencal retreat was once a stronghold of high-ranking officers in the Franco-Spanish war. From 1834 to 2002 the property was owned by the same prominent family of this fascinating area. Recently restored with loving attention to every authentic detail, this splendid mansion can now accommodate up to 16 adults and 12 children, and provides masses of living space. Lots of room to cook for a crowd in the kitchen with its restaurant-sized range, and for them to eat in the adjoining jardin d'hiver, where the original wood-fired bread oven functions as grill and barbecue and the tables can seat 28, or on the shaded terrace just outside. There's a dining room for more formal feasts plus a library, a salon with comfortable seating, and a grand salon looking onto the gardens and the lavender fields beyond.
