The small kitchen offers a cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, under-counter fridge, bread maker and many small appliances. A chest freezer is available in a separate utility building.
The living room and bedrooms have ceiling fans. There is a CD player with a wide selection of classical CDs, and a DVD/TV is available; but there is no satellite TV. The bedroom has an air-conditioning unit, but we request that this not be used prior to May 15.
There is a charcoal barbecue and a pair of hammocks slung between palms overlooking the ocean. We supply an ocean kayak and bicycles (but these may not work). There are also trails that start on the property and loop through the jungle and around the lake. We maintain a hummingbird feeder at the dining room window which provides a lot of entertainment. The large property and long beach frontages assure unusual isolation from neighbors (of which there are very few in any case).
The house is suitable for couples seeking peace, beauty, nature, and superb beaches. There is a good restaurant a 15 min walk, and stores 5 further minutes. Please note there is a second, 1-bedroom oceanfront cottage on the same 10 acre property. The 2 cottages each have their own 300 foot section of Atlantic beach, and their own driveways and beach paths. They are 250 feet apart and not visible or audible from each other (they are separated by a dense palm grove). However the ocean kayak is shared between both units.
Eleuthera is a large, underpopulated and quiet island. There are endless empty beaches, a few good restaurants (which are all close to Calypso) and all basic services, but it is definitely not south Florida or Nassau. It appeals to both the active and contemplative; some resourcefulness and patience is also useful. The only real luxuries we provide are the rarest - quiet, space, and beauty.
