The neighbors, mostly retired from the plantation, are jewels and represent a wonderful and rare aspect of Hawaiian Heritage and the manicured landscaping in this area is meticulously cared for.
The Hamakua Coast offers unparalleled outdoor activities on the east side including nearby Akaka Falls, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, and beautiful hiking trails. We are located a short drive from Honoli'i Beach, a great local surfing spot. This part of the coast is laced with streams, waterfalls and swimming holes, all against a backdrop of lush tropical vegetation.
Volcanoes National Park is a short 40 minute drive south, as is Waipio Valley and Waimea to the north, Kailua-Kona, a 90 minutes drive west.
Hilo Town offers a unique blend of 'Old-Hawaii Plantation Style Charm' and modern conveniences, abundant shopping and really great restaurants. The Farmers Market and The Fish Market should be must see places on you list.
You will find a wonderful variety of handicrafts, abundant produce, and fish, typical of the Big Island. The Lyman and Tsunami Museums in down town Hilo are very interesting and well worth the visit. Plan to step back in time and relax as you enjoy 'Old Hawaii at its Best.
