The village of Mechanicsburg is 30 minutes from the Gettysburg battlefield and visitor center, less than 30 minutes from Hershey Park, 45 minutes from Lancaster County's Amish Country. These are all in different directions, so we are very centrally located. There is also a Civil War museum in Harrisburg, just across the river. Mechanicsburg got its name because that's where all the covered wagons stopped to be repaired and worked on after they crossed the Susquehanna River heading west. It has the distinction of being the point of northernmost penetration of the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Other area attractions include Indian Echo Caverns, Lake Tobias Wildlife Park (fabulous for children!), Dutch Wonderland, IMAX theater and Harsco Science Center, and outstanding outlet shopping in Lancaster and Hershey. Enjoy the Appalachian Trail and other great wilderness hiking/biking trails, fishing, kayaking and tubing on the Susquehanna River and Yellow Breeches Creek minutes away.

Notes: The in-ground pool is a generous-sized 16' by 36' and has two fountains. It is equipped with a slide and a board and there are steps leading into the pool at the shallow end. A rope divides the shallow end from the deep end, and there is a poolside basketball goal for playing water basketball. WE HAVE A SOLAR COVER ON THE POOL TO WARM THE WATER FOR OUR EARLY SUMMER GUESTS.

Home base for a golf weekend

My golf group had a great weekend. Many courses within a short distance. We played Carlisle Barracks and Manada, could have easily gone to a dozen other courses without any problem. Sitting by the chimenea or in the gazebo was very relaxing. Second weekend in October, the pool was still open. Two of us couldn't resist. (When the annual golf trip takes us to the beach, we also can't resist a plunge in the ocean.) So a quick dip was pretty much expected. Fortunately the air temperature was warm for this time of year. The location in Mechanicsburg is close to I-81 making it easy to get to many sites. As far as dining, we went to the Glass Lounge on N. Front St. in Harrisburg and the Market Cross in Carlisle. Don't be fooled by the looks of the Glass Lounge. And you had better have a reservation. You will get a lot of food for a good price. The Market Cross offers a beer selection that is tough to beat. We had a good time, the accommodations were perfect.

Great house for family gathering

We chose this house primarily because it was centrally located for gathering our family together for a week. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The owners were very responsive to our questions prior to our visit, responding quickly to our emails. They were at the house when we arrived and showed us around. The bedrooms are all attractively decorated, the kitchen has all modern, high quality appliances, and there are laundry facilities in the basement. The weather was good during our stay, so we spent most of our time outside in and around the pool and in the gazebo. The plantings around the pool give it a tropical feel even though you are in town. The owners stopped by briefly nearly every day to water the plants, maintain the pool and always checked to see if we needed anything, but were never intrusive. The property description online was accurate and I would recommend this house to others.

Privacy limited

Overall, the house and pool are wonderful. The only downside we noted was that the owners were an almost daily visitor while we were renting. As a group that likes our privacy, we found the daily watering/pruning of the plants around the pool for an hour, mowing of the grass, etc to be intrusive. There were also text messages about what family member would be stopping by to pick up something...etc. Having rented multiple homes before, this was the first time we felt like we had limited use of the property because of the owners being outside or dropping by. At first we thought Janice and David were just making sure that we were being respectful of their home, but the visits continued. It would be preferable if yard maintenance (mowing) could be done on Saturdays between renters, or when people are not trying to use the pool area. The house was spotless, beautifully decorated, and it was easy to access the local sites.

Great place to stay!

Having 4 children always poses a great concern as to where we stay on vacation. We typically stay in a vacation home vs. hotel due to our family size. This was our 1st time staying in PA. This house is everything and SO much more than advertised. Janice & David were very welcoming and willing to accommodate if needed. The house was clean, well stocked & cared for. The grounds are exactly as they look in the pictures. The pool was LOVED by our kids! The gazebo makes for a great meeting/eating place.

We also chose this home for it's location. We visited Gettysburg (about 45 mins. away), Hershey (about 30 min. away), Strasburg/Lancaster (about an hour away). Didn't make it to Philly, but that would've been about 1 1/2 hrs. away.

The owners are very organized & efficient with all paper work & security deposit/refund. They truly want you to enjoy your stay at their home.

We highly recommend this house! Thanks again Janice & David for opening your fantastic home for us to stay in!

Great Vacation Home

We stayed at this rental home in June and the home is everything and more that is advertised. We had 5 kids and 5 adults in our group and there was still a spare bedroom. All the beds were very comfortable and the home is exquisitely furnished. It is located in a quiet neighborhood but still very close to major state roads making it easy to get around. The home has a spacious fenced-in yard that was very clean and well laid out. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the in-ground pool, horseshoe pits, chiminea, large gas grill, and the kids had fun seeing and catching all the numerous fireflies! There is plenty of outdoor seating and we made frequent use of the large screened-in gazebo with ceiling fan, especially during those afternoon summer rain showers. During our stay we visited Hershey Park, Dutch Wonderland, and Chocolate World but the kids seemed to enjoy all the wonderful amenities of this home rather than the parks! The home, gazebo, and pool house all were well stocked with everything we needed. This was our first vacation rental home and the entire process with the owners could not have gone smoother. Janice was very hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed. This home is highly recommended.
