A Touch of History:
Burgundy is rich in history, beginning with the ancient Celt town of Bibracte, then the Roman town of Autun which took Bibracte's place. Make sure to tour the ancient Roman Ramparts, the Temple Janus, and the Cathédrale Saint-Lazare d'Autun. Moving North through the vineyards, don't miss Beaune's Hotel Dieu, the Abbey Fontenay, and Dijon's Old Town. Another favorite visit of ours is Vezelay with it's beautiful church Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine. Chateau tours abound everywhere you turn. We have a list of available tours in our Guest Info book. We also provide an extensive list or recommended restaurants in the area and out of the area and shops for those fashion divas. Do not miss the Autun farmers market every Wednesday and Friday morning until noon. Happy tours!
From Wine Tasting to Hot Air Balloons:
Wine tours are easy from St Prix. It takes little time to reach the Route des Vins. North takes you to the famous reds such as Clos Veugot and South takes you to the famous whites such as Pouilly Fuisse. Hiking and fishing and mushroom or blackberry gathering begin right outside the front door of Chez Nid. There is a waterfall within a five minute walk from the house! Biking is just as easy. There are trails listed in our Guest info book. Swimming, tennis, golf, go carting, bowling, hot air ballooning, sailing, windsurfing, paddle boating, canoeing, and more are easily accessible. We also have activities not mentioned in Burgundy Eye inside our handy guest info book.
At Home:
Chez Nid is our little nest. We love creature comforts and have stocked the house full of them! Read your favorite book(or borrow one of ours) with your favorite glass of wine out on the terrace, grill your favorite steaks and eat al fresco during the long summer nights, cook that gourmet meal in our favorite kitchen, then work off the pounds on the cardio machines and weights. Surf the internet on our wifi. Bring your favorite DVD's (sorry only Zone 2) or surf the local channels on satellite tv. And for those rainy days or lazy days, we have exercise equipment, games, cards, and puzzles. There is a stereo connection for ipods or MP3 players, so bring your favorite music and enjoy. Bundles of firewood come at an extra cost of 25$ per bundle as well as a non-refundable cleaning fee of $100.
