Lovely home

(I want to give a "4 1/2" rating, but that's not allowed.)

My 2 sisters and I came to Hilo (10/31 -- 11/6) to celebrate my 50th birthday, and we all enjoyed this home. It was our first experience with HomeAway, so we weren't sure if it would be as nice as it looked, but we were very satisfied. The home itself is lovely and comfortable. The beds were comfy, the place was pretty clean, and the decor was very beautiful. The hot tub was a real treat, and the daybed was a great place to kick back and read or talk on the phone to loved ones back home. The owner has a big cooler, lawn chairs, and beach towels that we took on our picnics -- very convenient. Having the laundry right there was also a blessing.

There were a few minor quirks, most of which were easily and quickly corrected once we informed the owner (he was very responsive).

The only real problems we had were related to our arrival: a) there was a miscommunication about our arrival date, so we arrived a day earlier than he had thought, which meant the key wasn't there, and (I presume) that he didn't have a chance to spray for mosquitoes (my sister and I got lots of bites), but once he brought the keys to us, everything went well; and b) the driving directions we got from the owner were incomplete and pretty confusing (thank goodness we had a GPS with us!).

There's a rooster next door that disturbed my sisters, but not me (I just rolled over and went back to sleep); whether the rooster is a "negative" depends on what kind of sleeper you are.

I guess Hilo isn't for everyone. If you're looking for sandy beaches for swimming, don't come to the Big Island! Also, it rained pretty much every night and every morning; personally, that didn't bother me at all, but some people might object to it. (There was only one day that it rained pretty much all day, but we happened to be down at the Volcano, so we missed most of it.) But the rain is what makes it so green, lush, and beautiful.

Must See: Pana-ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens (free!), Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Garden, Onomea Bay, Hilo Farmer's Market, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. In my opinion, Rainbow Falls and Boiling Pots were a disappointment, but I really wish we had seen Akaka Falls.

I believe that you will not be sorry if you choose to stay at the Craftsman Oasis.

This is a truly remarkable place and way beyond my hopes. It was so nice here my wife and I cancelled some of our other day trips just to lounge around this beautiful house and enjoy all it had to offer. I am already planning another trip to come back for a longer stay. Thank you Chris for all the hospitality and advise to help us get the most out of our honeymoon.

We had a lovely stay in your house. The grounds, home & furnishings were wonderful. We especially enjoyed sitting on the lanai, swimming in the pool and listening to the wildlife. We saw a wild boar here!

This is the Garden of Eden (but no snakes). You have a magical place here. I have visted this part of the Big Island many times before and now have found the piece of paradise that I trully don't want to leave. I'll never forget the sunrises and the quiet serenity of the new day. I'll be back with my husband and friends.
