Further Details: Directly from the house one can hike or bike along quiet roads to the town of Oostburg, to the beaches or through the nature. Close by you can find a trout-farm of course nothing tastes better than a freshly caught trout on the barbeque! The trout-farm 'Henricushoeve' has rental-bikes available. The fishing town of Breskens boasts a large Yacht-harbour near which you find several seafood-stalls and restaurants offering delicate North Sea fish. The medieval town of Sluis offers canals, plenty of restaurants and boutiques and the 2 Michelin Star (!) restaurants 'Oud Sluis' worth a pelgrimage! Damme is a historic village with lots of antique bookshops, here you can have delicious pastries and coffees at the cosy 'Tante Marie's'.
Golf: Very close by you will find one of the most attractive golf courses of the Benelux 'De Brugse Vaart' 18 holes. Brugse Vaart 10, Oostburg. Info tel. 0031-117-453410. This club has an impressive clubhouse in classic Palladian style surrounded by a rose-park and is open all year round. Knokke has the Royal Zoute Golf Club with Champion course (par 72) 18 holes or competition course (par 64), max. Handicap 20. Caddiespad 14, B-8300 Knokke-Zoute. Info tel. 0032-50-601227. This club now exists for more than a hundred years and the English influx of the founding years can still be noticed by the 'club mansion' as well as by wonderfully shorn hedges and a cosy bar which almost gives you the real 'pub' feeling. 13 years ago this golf club was voted Europe's best and it still has that international atmosphere and clientele and alas the rather costly green fees.
