Brooklin holiday

Brooklin, Maine is located on the east side of the Blue Hill Peninsula, facing Acadia National Park which is an hour away (much less by water!). Its southern border is the Eggemoggin Reach which separates it from Deer Isle. It is populated by lobstermen and boat builders, including the well-known Wooden Boat School, artists, craftsmen and increasingly by organic farmers. It was also home to E.B. White who drew a large circle of literary people. He is buried in the local cemetery and almost everyone can tell you where his farmhouse and inspiration for Charlotte's Web, etc. are to be found. The local library is an exquisite building, full of light, which provides lending library of books, including those by local writers, DVD collection and computer and YFi if a visitor wants to be in touch with email, etc.

Blue Hill is the largest town in the area and has lots of wonderful restaurants, art galleries, gift shops, etc. The main supermarket is there ('Trade Winds' which is a Hannaford market) which stocks many of the local specialties including goats cheeses, baked goods, including the best bread anywhere, etc. Among others, the Wescott Forge can be recommended for bisto atmosphere and gourmet menu, and Barncastle for gourmet pizza. The Saturday farmers' market a the Fair Ground on Rt 172 is very special, as Blue Hill is the local center of the organic farming community.
