Our stay at Palmas del Mar

My wife and I along with our youngest son's family (wife and kids 4,6 and 8) spent a week at Palmas del Mar. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The villa was spacious, very clean and had a great view of the harbor. We all enjoyed the swimming pool and the kids liked the playground but really wanted to swim! Having a laundry allowed us to pack lightly since we could wash our clothes.
We did a lot of meal preparation in the kitchen in the villa. This saved $$ as well as time. We also ate at a few nearby restaurants for variety. The nearby Palmanova Plaza has a small grocery store as well as numerous restaurants including a pizza place.
Palmas is conveniently located near the harbor. We ate at the tapas restaurant (part of Chez Daniel) (excellent) and took a trip with Captain Matt (www.maragatacharters.com - to Vieques. HIGHLY recommended especially for great snorkeling.)
My son golfed on the Flamboyan Greens where he was visited by a number of large but not dangerous iguanas. He loved the course and found the wildlife interesting!
We went to Old San Juan, Luquillo beach, the wildlife refuge at Humacao and drove south to the Faro (lighthouse) at Punta Tuna. I mention these to point out that there are many places within easy driving of Palmas. There are more places but we ran out of time and wanted to make sure we also rested by swimming both in the pool and at the beach.
I would recommend highly considering staying at Palmas if there are more than 2 or 3 in your party. I probably would not recommend it for groups of teen agers unless they want to go on nature hikes and rest. The place is generally quiet but conducive to a lot of sightseeing. On the grounds, you will definitely want to rent a golf cart (at the marina) as there are cart paths all over the place. There is an elevator so that anyone can access the villa.
We all - including the kids- wished we could have stayed longer than a week. This especially hit us when we got back home to 20 deg weather and snow.
