Photos and Description of this County Clare holiday house 3 bedrooms (one queen, two twin), 3 full baths, sleeps 6

You will be amazed that this beautiful, thatched cottage combines the charm of a traditional Irish farmhouse with all modern conveniences. Built in 1998, the cottage sits in a perfectly pastoral setting with spectacular views of the Aran Islands, the Burren, and the Cliffs of Moher. You may want to combine the peacefulness of the cottage with the excitement of the music-filled pubs in the village of Doolin, which is the traditional Irish music capital of Ireland. Doolin is one mile away from the house. The view from the house was featured in the September 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The striking Doonagore Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, is located immediately down the hill from the cottage and is framed by the conservatory windows. You will be thrilled that the cottage is a unique combination of quiet elegance, great views and great fun.

Best Week of My Life

Mary&Jon Wolfeboro,NH USA
Review Submitted: June 9, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We spent a week here for our honeymoon, and it was the most beautiful, fun, romantic week of my life. The house is so warm and welcoming, we immediatly felt at home. The view from the house is absolutely breathtaking. I just can't say enough good things about this place and the surrounding area. The owners are wonderful, and very helpful. We definitly want to return someday.
Owner's Response: What pleasure it gives us to have guests enjoy our home as much as we do. Gay & Gerry

A dream getaway

Blue Ridge Travelers Asheville, North Carolina/ USA
Review Submitted: October 17, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
The listing was accurate, but words and even pictures cannot adequately depict the beauty of this home and the views out the conservatory windows! A castle, whitecaps, ferries and cows were all visible and calming. Everything needed was in place and the home neat as a pin with wonderful furnishings. We found the town of Doolin charming, esp. the just out of town pub, McGann's. The home was an ideal home base for visiting cities to the north and the south. Bunratty Castle and the airport are a mere hour away; the famed Ring of Kerry with views was an easy drive away as well as the wonderful town of Adare. Stonecutters Restaurant was a favorite dinner place less than a mile away. The natives and tourists were fun to talk to and the Irish music relaxing. I would recommend this property rental to my closest friends!

Our family just returned from two weeks in this warm, comfortable, magical, elegant (there aren't enough adjectives!)home. And as beautiful and welcoming as the house is, the surrounding land and nearby ocean are even more so. It was wonderful to start each day with a cup of tea on the patio, watching the ferries go back and forth from the Aran Islands, feeling the sun and the breeze, and being amazed by the absolute quiet of the place! I am so grateful to the owners for sharing this place. I hope to return.

Review Submitted: September 2, 2007 Date of Stay: September 2007
We are veteran home renters, but Draiocht charmed us beyond any other place that we have ever stayed. This lovely home is a bastion of stillness, covered with a traditional thatch roof and set upon the most beautiful rolling hills running down to the sea. The view is so stunning that dozens of cars stop daily right along the road outside so that folks can hop out and have a picture. In fact, this very same view -- a 15th century castle with the sea beyond – is featured in the current (September 2007) issue of Condé Nast (in an article on touring the “new” Ireland).

The entire home is comfortably and charmingly furnished. We were particularly grateful for the collection of books helping us to identify the flora and fauna of the area and providing background on Ireland of the type not commonly found in guidebooks. The house is so snug that you will be tempted to spend all day curled up with a book and the view, but make sure to get outside on foot. It is an easy and breathtaking walk into Doolin. If you tire of pub grub, the food at both Cullinan’s and The Lazy Lobster is not to be missed. Other wonderful walks include the road to The Clare Jam Shop and the road bearing the sign from Co. Clare warning of “Dangerous Cliffs.”

We are immensely thankful for our two weeks at Draiocht. We hope that it will remain just as it is – beautiful and unspoiled – for many years to come.
