too good to be true

We chose this location because we'd lived in the neighborhood for 8 years; but the level of funk made this getaway depressing and not something I'd recommend to anyone! On the plus side, the location is across the street from a laundry, the Outer Avenues Food Co-op is a few blocks away, and the N-Judah is 1/2 block away. On the not so good side, the description was less than accurate: the property was not maintained in the least; the linens were not plentiful, there wasn't the sofa bed as indicated in the unit we stayed in; there was a skimpy fold out mat to put on the floor and no linens for it until we called and complained; the kitchen is so tight that it is nearly impossible to squeeze beside the refrigerator to stand in front of the cooktop; just as well since the cooktop was cracked. The extra pillow we took down from the closet smelled like someone's uncle had been sleeping on it for 40 years without a trip to the laundramat; the odor of cigarettes and dog from the tenant across the hall was so bad that I had to hold my breath coming up the stairs until I opened the door to the apartment; it took a month to the day to receive the security deposit back.
Owner's Response: I have operated this vacation rental for over 3 years and have had many, many happy travelers and never a serious complaint. Unfortunately in this case I believe there was a mix up in scheduling of the house keeper for the guests arrival. I regret that a traveler arrived to messy apartment. When made aware of it we did everything we could to correct the problem. The unit is very comfortable and is well maintained. As for the smoking neighbor they have fortunately moved away. Please contact me directly with questions you may have.
