Washington County:
Downeast Washington County Maine is recognized as one of the country's finest birdwatching areas. It is one of the few areas in the country where Puffins can be viewed. Visit East and West Quoddy Lighthouses, Lobster Festivals, Blueberry Festivals. Take a Kayak trip along the famous rocky coast of Maine or hike the Bold Coast Trail. Day trips to Bar Harbor and Arcadia National Park, Campabello Island (Canada), and whale watching are all possible from this location.
Machias Area:

Machias celebrates the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War with a festival in early June.

Relax as you swim in the delightful fresh water, fish from the dock or sit by a campfire enjoying the sun set over the river in the east. Pick fresh vegetables from the garden in July and August, play a game of horseshoes, or enjoy the spacious indoor playrooms on a rainy day. For the hiking or biking enthusiast, it is a short walk to a Rails to Trails connection (2009 addition to the Machias Area).
