My husband and I enjoyed our summer stay in this cozy, attractive and immaculate home. It is laid out as described. The furnishings are modern and in excellent shape. The beds and bedding are especially pretty. All amenities mentioned in the rental ad were available to us and were organized with care and attention to detail. The screened backporch is small, but affords a pleasant spot to chat, enjoy coffee or lunch and watch your children in the grassy, fenced backyard. As mentioned in the ad, people with disabilities and very small children (toddlers) would have difficulty with the staircase that leads to the second story. The garage is not available to renters, but we had no problems leaving our cars in the drive.
We would not describe the location as rural--houses line each side of the street that runs the mile stretch up the incline to the center of Lenox-- and there is a fair amount of traffic on that road. We enjoyed walking up the hill --there is a sidewalk--early each morning to purchase the daily paper at a friendly family-owned grocery store.
There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area--Tanglewood is only a couple of miles up the road; several gilded-age mansions are open to the public for tours; the library in Lenox is a nice place to visit with or without children
in tow. There are restaurants and cafes in Lenox and in surrounding towns which are well worth patronizing. The house is also located near several supermarkets only a ten- minute drive away.
The owners made us feel welcome. They were eager to make certain our stay was a pleasant one. We felt free to contact them by phone at any time. The close proximity of this home to so many Berkshire treasures makes it the perfect place to rent as a home base for sightseeing.
Owner's Response: Thank you for an honest and fair review, I’m our renters will find this to be helpful information.
We have changed the description of our home to town vs. rural as suggested. Since the websites on which we advertise limit us to pre-set selections let us offer clarification as to what this means. Lenox has a population of approximately 5,000 people and is a quaint New England town. Our home is not in the downtown, but a short walk – 1 mile to be exact. Due to the close proximity to downtown we do have cars that drive by our home, but we are not on a highway. Lenox can be a very busy place. During peak season we welcome lots of visitors to our town. We think our home is the perfect location, you can choose to explore the popular downtown area or escape to other adventures in the area without the frustration of slow traffic. We do have neighbors within view. Our back yard is fairly private – one neighbor can be viewed to the side, none to the other side or back – the wooded view changes with the seasons.
Our home is owner maintained. We visit the home before and after every guest. We also insist on speaking personally to each of our guests before we issue a contract for rental. Please understand that we want to help you in the selection of a perfect spot for your Berkshire vacation. During this process you can speak freely of your needs and we promise to be honest about the details of our home. As our reviewer suggests we do have stairs and all of our baths are on the second floor, this does not work for everyone. We have many renters with children, we do inform each guest of this fact. Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you have. We are sure you will love the Berkshires and hope that you enjoy your stay and want to return often!
