Great Resort, Awesome Staff, Upgrades ongoing

josephsparents Peekskill, NY, United States
Review Submitted: March 17, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
We stayed at the Blue Water Resort at Guanahani Village in January of this year and though it was not as hot in the Bahamas as we would have liked, we loved the resort! Before our visit, we researched and found many positive and some mixed reviews, so we didn't know exactly what we would find. We also discovered through the resort site, that the resort was undergoing renovation and while we wished for a spanking brand new room, there was no way to guarantee that is what we would receive. We ultimately decided to stay because it offered the best value for our money - three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a full sized kitchen. Everyone would have enough room.

We stayed in one of the garden villas that was partially renovated. Score! Loved the patio with grill and lounge chairs. It was private, peaceful and park like. The sliding doors, were really sliding glass walls and with the outer doors locked, we could let our three year old play outside and still be able to see him from the inside. He loves the beach as do we and the one downside to the resort is that the beach is fairly small, but this is the Bahamas and there are tons of cool beaches!

I mentioned the fully equiped kitchen. It has everything you could need, down to the electric kettle for tea! The one negative is that there is not a lot of space in the kitchen to store your groceries unless you move the dishes around. Bring your own groceries! Food is tremendously expensive in the Bahamas. While you may not want to cook on vacation everyday, having the option, especially when you have children is a definite plus! And with the money we saved we were able to do many of the top attractions, like the Powerboats, Swim with the Dolphins and the Adastra Gardens. We tried the Pirates tour, but our son would have no part of it!

The staff was tremendous. They were always smiling and looking to see what they could do to make our stay more enjoyable. One of the staff even gave us a ride to the fish fry when she saw us waiting at the bus stop (which is right outside the resort). She insisted! They were knowledgeable and when the time came to discuss the timeshare option, there was no high pressure! Riding the bus is enjoyable and super easy!

Overall, we love the Bahamas and we loved our stay at Blue Water Resort! If you are travelling with a family or just want to relax, this is the place for you. If you are looking for the nightlife out of your hotel, not so much.

Lots of room which was great! Amenities average

BoulderM Boulder, CO
Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We stayed in a Garden Villa which is smaller than the oceanfront villas that are advertised. However, we still had 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a full kitchen and washer/dryer. It really depends what is important to you as a traveler if this place will work for you. If you don't like to stay in a hotel room and need lots of space for your family, then I would consider The Blue Water Resort. If you prefer the outdoor amenities, I would recommend Atlantis or the Sheraton. We were able to walk down and "crash" the Sheraton pool/beach scene which definitely worked for us (3 pools and the largest beach I saw while there). The Blue Water villas are not top of the line, but they didn't carry a top of the line price tag. Honestly, nothing on New Providence Island seemed that top of the line. Everything was pretty tired and the beaches were very small. I have read other reviews that the beach in front of Blue Water is small, but the beach is small almost everywhere on that island. We rented a car and I cannot imagine being without one. The nearest grocery store (City Market) was in far walking distance but Super Valu was better and you needed a car or the jitney to get there. The restaurants on the island did not live up to the Frommers reviews and everything was frighteningly expensive. I read this from other people, but cannot emphasize enough how true this was. The average dinner bill for 4 (with 2 eating from the kiddie menu) was $150 and these were not even good dinners. We usually ate in for breakfast and lunch and that saved us some money. The best dinner we had was at the Marley resort which is across from the Super Valu. Overall, I was not that enchanted with the Bahamas nor the people there and thought that Blue Water resort was OK if you are looking for a larger place with kitchen and laundry amenities.

Blue Water Resort for a Relaxing Vacation

Billav Tyngsboro, Mass. USA
Review Submitted: April 7, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
The Blue Water Resort is located on a great location with plenty of privacy and as quiet as you'd want it. It is on the local Bus Line or you can walk to the Casino, Restaurants or other Hotel activities. We stayed the second week of February 2009 for our 5th trip there. The rooms are spacious, clean and has a most helpful staff. The beautiful clear blue water is about 75 feet from the Resort pool with a nice cozy sandy beach. We have enjoyed The Blue Water aka The Guanahani every visit we have made and have bought two weeks of timesharing which we will use forever God willing.

Not the Best.........

chong Windham, NH
Review Submitted: March 7, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
Just returned from Blue Water Resort.....there are many problems with the facility. They are under new management and have many kinks to get out. Owner is in Florida with onsite manager at the Resort. We stayed Fri-Thurs and finally saw the manager on Wed. after putting in several requests for repairs and needed items. Poor communication, run down facility, inaccurate descriptions of the property(on several levels), and in need of major maintenance overhaul. For example, some of our problems were: sliding doors & windows jump the tracks and didn't shut properly, screen doors are ripped & bugs were coming in, front door had a hard time locking & finally had an outside locksmith come and repair what he could, waited 4 days for a pillow case, twin beds are more in line with crib mattresses & had king bedspreads on them, very small beach & you had to bring down pool furniture if you wanted to sit there, outdoor grill is a small old fashioned grill on stand where you need charcoal and lighter fluid(facility was kind enough to provide us after I said this was not represented properly). I could go on & on, but this highlights where things are at here. This could be a beautiful facility with some TLC and proper communication between management and staff. There are several sales staff running around trying to sell time share. I would be hesitant to invest any money given our stay. Until things change, I wouldn't return. Bottom line, facility is not what is described throughout the various websites it is posted on. On a positive note, I was compensated for 2 nights of my stay for all the problems we encountered.
Owner's Response: While we not only appreciate, but encourage fair and unbiased reviews - we do not feel that the description painted by this review is accurate at all. This guest informed management on the day of arrival that she was upset, and we quickly offered to refund the guest her entire payment and book her in a neighboring 3 or 4 star hotel. The guest did not even consider leaving, and instead stayed at the resort enjoying her time. The following day, we again offered a refund to the guest which she denied. On the day of check out, the guest demanded to be full compensated for her stay - after she already enjoyed her stay, and wanted all government taxes refunded as well. Other reviews verify that the problems encountered are inaccurate, and we would love to direct you to such.
