The Algarve :
The Algarve coastline stretches for over 150km, from the rio (river) Guardiana, on the Spanish frontier in the east, to the windswept Punta de Sagres peninsula in the west. Given the sheer number of beaches, from tiny coves to seemingly infinite ribbons of sand, it is a small wonder that over half of all visitors to Portugal choose to concentrate on this beautiful coastline.
Vilamoura:
Once a Roman settlement and now developed into a cosmopolitan town, Vilamoura is centred around its famously colourful marina where sailing yachts and fishing boats can be hired. The resort centre boasts a huge variety of shops, boutiques, live music bars and restaurants as well as a casino. The resort also offers four first class, 18 hole golf courses, tennis facilities, horse-riding and fine sandy beaches stretching over 5 miles.
Golf:
VILAMOURA 1 -
A major renovation in 1996 has not altered the basic characteristics of what used to be known as the 'old' course. Accuracy is essential on the narrow fairways. With its lovely umbrella pines it remains a favourite with many of the Algarve´s most seasoned golfers.
VILAMOURA 2 -
Situated in typical Algarvian countryside, this is a more open course than Vilamoura 1 but the greens are smaller and require greater accuracy. Probably the most difficult hole comes at the very end, so don´t relax until you are back in the clubhouse.
VILAMOURA 3 -
A more recent and much different course to the other two on this huge estate. Consisting of three 9-hole loops, it is much more open and has a parkland feel. Water hazards feature strongly and demand accurate placing of the tee and fairway shots.
Several signposted turnoffs on the EN125 lead to the Vilamoura resort, within which each course is signposted.
