Enjoy an unforgettable holiday, in the heart of the amazing Alpujarras, on the fertile southern slopes of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, a remote, rural area with stunning views of the mountains and a mild Mediterranean climate from the nearby coast. This villa has been built in traditional andalucian-arabic style and children are warmly welcomed. The holiday home and the location have a lot to offer to families and those with a spirit for adventure as well as to those seeking rest and relaxation. The peace of the countryside can be enjoyed in the large garden, while reading under the shade of an olive tree beside the childproof, gated pool , playing football with the kits or spending a summer evening at the barbecue. You can go on short walks directly from the land, take day trips to the nearby coast or up to the whitewashed, winding mountain villages. It takes 40 minutes (34 miles) by car to get to Granada, one of the most beautiful and lively historic cultural cities in the world.

Cortijo el Potro is characterised by its generously sized interior, its large sitting room and two bathrooms as well as its proximity to the village and the warm welcome towards children. At the large swimming pool (4 m x 10 m and a shallow area for small children), there is a water slide, a giant swing and a playground with a goal. From October to May we offer our guests to fire them a wonderful Finnish sauna (extra charge € 15). For this reason, the pool is open all over the year. 50 m away we live in the separate main house of the land. From beginning July to middle September we rent out this house as well and the pool is shared during these months between the guests of both houses, being one to the other well visual protected by lush vegetation and avocado trees and having each house its own garden and barbecue area . The rest of the year the pool is shared only with us and we are of course very respectful with clients in need of peace and relax. The house has free internet access.

Orgiva is a lively Andalusian market village, picturesque situated in a large valley in the south of Granada, right between the rugged and snow covert mountains and the Costa Tropical, surrounded by wild, green and well-balanced countryside, rivers and thousands of years old olive and productive orange groves. Our property is an organic farm producing its own olive oil and almost all over the year our guests can find rip fruits ready to be taken right from the trees. Alongside its numerous street cafes, bars, small shops, the weekly market and the indoor market, Orgiva also offers supermarkets, banks, a post office, a cinema, and an emergency medical centre. It takes 10 minutes to walk over a country lane from the property to Órgiva. It is only 25 km to the Costa Tropical, where you still can find a few beautiful and peaceful bays with only a fish restaurant right beside the water. In the mountains are many hiking trails passing by rivers and lagoons to enjoy a refreshing bath.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The price is for the whole house and all bills (including fire wood in the winter) for 4 people. Except end cleaning (45,- Euro), there are no more costs on top. Included in thes price are: linens, bath-and pool towels, fire wood, 24 hours internet connection, gas, electricity, a basic panntry with essentials (herbs, spices, vinegar, oil, sugar, honey, coffee, tea, cocoa, tuna, wash powder, etc) and a 'Welcome-food pack' for a first snack. Price for extra beds for a 5th or a 6th guest: 10,- Euro per person per night. Children under 6 years old are free. We provide free high chairs and cots. Change over day during high season is Saturday, but in low seasons, as on last minute bookings, can be made exceptions. Also we offer long lets rates during low seasons for 200,- /300,- Euros per week, depending of length of stay (min. 8 weeks) and we offer special rates for last minutes bookings (at least 20 days before arrival).

If once we do not get in contact with you, the error is probably any kind of a technical problem or there is something wrong with the e-mail address you have given us. For this reason we recommend filling out the inquiry form as completely as possible and never forget to put your telephone number in the field where it asks for. As well you can just give us a call and we call you back immediately.
    We can arrange flamenco lessons in the house, horse trekking or alpine trekking in the area and ski excursions to the ski resort of Sierra Nevada.
    Apart it will be a pleasure to us to offer all our experience we could gather in the 20 years we are living in the area to give you any kind of practical tips and advises about what-when-where-how to do, like it could be nice spins, beaches, restaurants, culture events, tickets booking, etc .We really want to give you the chance to dive in to the authentic Andalusia.
  • Our holiday house is on a certificated organic farm (ACROCOLOR) and a lawful tourist-family business which is registered in - and controlled by the Spanish tourist authority and guarantees all kind of demands of security, hygiene and quality. The price includes 7 % VAT and a general household contents insurance. With our long experience with the holiday houses and the continuous improvements we have been doing during all these years we want to make sure that our guests can enjoy a completely unproblematic, relaxing and refreshing holiday. That we are successful proves al the positive comments of our guests which you can visit in the “statements of our guest book'. With the photographs, we put on this web site, we are trying as best as possible to give an impression of the product we offer. Notes: Not only is the decor tasteful and authentic (for example, the solid wooden furniture, the wooden deck, the terracotta floor tiles and the Arabic bathroom tiles) but it also includes everything you could need and is of very good quality (double glazed windows and balcony doors, built-in rustic kitchens with granite work surfaces, etc.). The very well done building guarantees comfortable winter nights and a pleasurable “siesta” on a hot summer afternoon. Attractive specific features of the property: Due to their location in the unparalleled, evergreen even in the heat of summer, Alpujarras, between the sunny coast and the high mountains of Granada, our holiday cottage is the ideal place to get to know Andalucia intimately, away from the tourist hustle and bustle. It is an ideal starting point to do any kind of walks and excursions. Straight from the house, you can enjoy wonderful walks through the valley or up to the hills. By car, you can take trips to the high part of the 'Las Alpujarras' with its white and picturesque mountain villages or to the peaks of Sierra Nevada, up to 3484m high and full of rare animals, wild rivers and untouched lagoons, resting in peace. In 25 minutes you get to the coast and in 40 minutes to Granada. Day trips can be taken to cities like Cordoba, Ronda or Seville, or National Parks like Sierra de Grazalema, Sierra de Cazorla, Cabo de Gato etc. In addition to this, the holiday homes are only 80km away from the Sierra Nevada ski resurts.(see ski info)

Interesting specific features of culture: The time of the Moors and Arab rule lasted almost 900 years and left more of an impression on The Alpujarras than on any other region of Spain. The legacy of Arabic art and culture can still be seen in the style of buildings, the intricate irrigation system, and the local crafts, music and art. From the Arabs came recipes, which creatively combine meat or fish with fruit and herbs. They brought figs, pomegranates, citrus fruit, olives and melons with them and these sun-loving fruits are still flourishing in The Alpujarras today, alongside strawberries, prickly pears, peaches, cherries, apples, pears, quince, walnuts, chestnuts and almonds. On the property, there are about 30 different fruit trees, and the whole year one can pick fresh fruits right from the tree, ripe oranges even from October to June. The flowering time starts in February with the almond flower, the famous and historically significant and revered orange tree blossom (El Azahar) smells during the whole month of April.

Specific features of local cuisine: The Alpujarran cuisine doesn't boast any refinements, it's more about the earthy real tastes of the ingredients - and thanks to the variety of altitudes and climate zones here there's an abundance of foods on offer: air dried mountain ham, all types of sausages and cheese, meat, fish and vegetables, potatoes and eggs prepared in various ways, fruit, as well as every possible variation on olives. Many of these fine ingredients lend their charm to all sorts of Tapas, delicious nibbles whose home is Andalucia; accompanied by a glass of sherry, the world famous wine from the sunshine land of the Spanish south.

Ski: Experience a completely different skiing holiday: in southern Spain! Depending on your mood and the weather conditions, you can go skiing in the Sierra Nevada, lap up the sunshine under a palm tree at a street cafe on the Costa Tropical or enjoy a tour of the world famous Alhambra Palace in the fascinating and light-hearted student city of Granada Sierra Nevada (80 km from the house) is the most modern ski resort in Spain and has more sunny days than any other ski resort in Europe. A high certainty of snow, enjoying 76 km long, wide ski runs on altitudes between 3400m and 2000m, low prices and a really friendly environment make Sierra Nevada an ideal winter holiday destination. While back at your cosy holiday home there is a welcoming open fire and if you wish a Finnish wood sauna, which we will be happy to prepare for you by prior arrangement. Golf: To the next golf course it takes 25km driving down to the beach.

„Liebe Begoña, Oliver, ein wunderschöner Platz um Urlaub zu machen. Darüber hinaus noch Eure Gastfreundschaft macht dieses Ferienhaus für uns unvergesslich. Als Gott das Paradies erschuf kam er bestimmt auch hier vorbei, vieles hat er hier gelassen. Die Alpujarras und Órgiva bieten alles, was wir in den Ferien brauchen. Wir nehmen das ganze Auto voll Keramik und Essen mit zurück ins kalte Deutschland und freuen uns jetzt schon darauf wieder zu kommen.“ Cony K. Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Die Ruhe und die wunderschöne Landschaft waren Erholung pur. Dank den guten Tips haben wir Orte gesehen die wir vielleicht alleine nicht besucht hätten. Das Haus war gemütlich eingerichtet, wir hatten alles was wir brauchten. Wir möchten uns bei Oliver nochmals bedanken für die Betreuung, den Service (z.B. zusätzliche Wäsche bei Gastwechsel ohne Probleme) und den gemütlichen Aufenthalt im Spanien der Spanier.
