Walking Distance:
Within easy walking distance from the Lodge on the country road is “Ravine Farm”, to the right, for horseback riding farm animals and pond. A longer walk, to the left, is the new “Barlow’s Bridge” over the Catskill Creek with a beautiful long view of the Creek winding through the valley. During the early spring when the river is in spate, kayakers “white water” the Catskill, in April it is widely fished for Trout, and in summer it is one fine place to swim! As a matter of fact; our local swimming hole, “Dean’s Mill” (5 minutes away) was written up in “The New Yorker” Magazine as one of the great places to swim in the Catskills!
Swimming, fishing, go-carts, miniature golf, plane rides, horseback riding, a nightclub, festivals, Darby’s (real Irish) Pub, Ruby’s Restaurant, The Wayside Inn and a great Irish Import Store are less than 5 minutes away. Less than 15 minutes away is New York’s “#1 water park”,
Golfing - Horseback Riding:
The Zoom Flume, destination Golf at Sunny Hill/ Thunderheart and also three more great restaurants (one, “The Mountainview Brasserie” can only be called superb). It’s about 25 minutes to destination skiing, tubing, boarding and dining at Ski Windham …and worth the drive to come home here!
The Fourth of July Fireworks (annually and fireworks every Tuesday all summer long) are seen PERFECTLY from your comfortable, sheltered back deck, not too much noise…great visual and lots of fun. Gliders from the Freehold Airport are out every weekend, or when the Soaring Club meets. The Gliders flash in the sun; quiet and white against the backdrop of sky and mountain; catching updrafts from the valley below. Often you see Red Tailed Hawks or huge Turkey Vultures doing the same thing…
Skiing and other Winter Activities:
Circling Hawks’ direct Southern exposure offers close views of the actual Mountain Range, itself. Sunrise to sunset, light plays over both the Catskills and the interior of the Lodge. Here you have a combination of pastures, trees, and privacy often missing in high peak rentals. Go apple picking in Autumn right here at the Lodge…take them home or bake warm apple crisp in your fully equipped gourmet kitchen! The Lodge provides snow shoes, flying saucers for sledding, blankets for the fire pit and unlimited firewood for both outside and inside, as the fireplace in the Great Room eats a lot!
Here, the year ‘round restaurants are time tested, tried and true, and within minutes. They range from world renown fine dining to just a great place to eat. Nearby is the Historic City of Hudson, up and coming destination for New Yorkers, with a Mexican Radio and other outstanding restaurants, high end antiques, and quite a social allure.
Ski:
The Catskills Mountains are about 30 minutes away. After a great day at the slopes come back to the lodge and light a fire in the fireplace. As dinner is cooking relax in the hot tub and soak up the incredible view of the mountains.
Get ready for another day at the slopes or go cross country skiing from the lodge or be a kid again and try one of the sleds. After all the exercise make some hot chocolate and sit around the fire pit then relax in the hot tub.
