A beautiful home to spend a week or two while exploring scenic mid coast Maine. Perched on a rise overlooking 238 acre Medomak Pond, this fully equipped home makes for a comfortable and relaxing vacation experience. Feel welcome to entertain your friends and family. There is a screen porch, lobster pot, barbecue, complete linens, washer/dryer, satellite TV, DVD player, and AC. A 15 mile drive puts you in Damariscotta. It is 25 miles to spectacular Pemaquid Peninsula, and 28 miles to charming Camden village and harbor. You will enjoy the scenic quality of the water, and can access the river and pond via a woodland path, but there is nothing that serves as a beach. Feel free to use our kayaks and canoes to paddle the river or nose into the nooks and crannies of the pond.

The home is on Route 220, 6 miles north of the landmark Moody's Diner. From Boston, it is a 179 mile drive. Waldoboro is a rural town dotted with lakes, old farms, and fishing villages. The pace is slow with warm and pleasant summers, along with cool and spectacular fall foliage. The Camden Hills ski area is 28 miles away. Please note that Google Maps are somewhat inaccurate for rural properties such as ours. The home is on Medomak Pond where the river drains, not where push pin indicates.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Generally, we rent in week long increments, Sat. to Sat., but will consider different time frames.
  • Reduced long term rates will be considered, particularly from November to May.

    We welcome people who simply want a long weekend, but the winter weekly rate is the minimum charge.

    During the off season, we have more flexibility with the time frame. For instance, people looking for a long weekend may be able to come in on Friday and leave Sunday or Monday.
  • We have found that the Saturday afternoon to the following Saturday morning system accommodates most people, and least interferes with other guests schedules. If there is a vacancy, we will be happy to consider modifications.

    Check in time is 4 pm, while checkout is 11 am. Depending on the needs of the other tenants, there may be flexibility with these time frames, particularly for long winter weekends.

Notes: The home is on Medomak Pond, right where the river drains. The view of the lake is very pleasant, but it does not have 'jump off the deck access'. There is a path to the river where one can launch a canoe/kayak or small boat. Pictures of the path and landing are available upon request. The pond side yard is fenced and gated. The door yard is gravel, with plenty of room to park. The property encompasses about 5 acres, mostly wooded.

Have an interest in wild birds?: While working outside on May 12, I couldn't help but notice the jungle like sound of the local bird life. That day alone, without trying, I saw multiple Baltimore orioles, once with a scarlet tananger and a ruby throated hummingbird in the backround. Also, there were downy, hairy, and pileated woodpeckers around, as well as assorted ducks and Canada geese. The usual songbird suspects were about, such as catbirds, red winged blackbirds, chickadees, nuthatches, goldfinches, blue jays, mourning doves, grackles, rose breasted grosbeaks, robins, ravens, crows. In the field were tree swallows, bobolinks and bluebirds. That day I did not happen to see a bald eagle, osprey or loon, but one usually does. Yellow rumped warblers, yellow warblers and various sparrows were lurking amongst the underbrush. It was quite a wild life day.

Fireplace: The fireplace is pretty to look at, but non functioning. A design flaw prevents sufficient draft. Of course, the house is centrally heated, and even has an automatic back up emergency generator in the event of an outage.

We spent a week in this really excellent house. Jon was very nice and helpful.
The description is very exact and really nothing was missing.
Whenever we are in the same area we like to rent this house again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Medomak House. So much so, we returned two weeks later for another stay prior to our trip to the USA ending. Tucked away from the main road, fanstastic views, even in heavy rain storms! Cosy house, warm, and inviting. The house has everything you need and more. Easy drive into the nearby townships, Morses Sauerkraut store and restaurant just down the road. Other local restaurants and shopping not far away with the bonus of being close to the coastal area and all the fresh seafood. The property is exactly as per the website photos. So much so, you feel as if you have been there before when you walk in the door. It has a fully fenced area making it ideal and safe for young children and including a separate dog pen for pets.Canoes available on site, fully furnished and maintained beautifully. Nothing is lacking. We have definite plans to return to the property on our next visit to the USA. No hesitation in recommending this property to anyone...well the only hesitation is that if we do recommend it, it might not be available for us when we visit the area again! Thank you for your hospitality and friendliness. Extremely helpful and friendly host. So much you could say to compliment this rental property but not enough room to say it all. Great property, Great scenery and location and Great host. See you again sometime..all the way from Australia!

Wonderful House excellent equipped

The big house is located at a little driven highway and has even its own automatic emergency power supply.

Jon, the owner, is very friendly and helpful. On day of arrival he still waited for me and showed me the most important things.

The most beautiful bedroom (Pictures 3 and 11) is next to the kitchen with a fantastic view on the Memorak River/Sea. And over the bed there is still another skylight, so that you can see direct into the stars. Unfortunately at the end of of June the weather was not very good during my stay (only cloudily and much of rain).

The remaining equipment of the house and the kitchen was excellent. Everything was in a very clean and good condition.

Everywhere in the house there are small birds made from wood, plastics, in pictures, in photos, on coster even on light switches are pictures with birds. You can also observe many birds in the garden.

There are two open patios and one roofed patio which is surrounded by a fly screen.

You can reach the Memorak River on a little private pathway (150 yards), where you can use the kayaks.

The next supermarket (Hannaford) is approx. 7 miles far away in Waldoboro directly at the main street (US 1). Otherwise there is a larger Shaw' s in Wiscasset and in Rockland where you can also find a big Walmart Supercenter.

Rockland and Camden are pretty little towns with a seaport and about 24 miles away from the house. You can also drive to Augusta, the capital of maine, which is 27 miles away from the house.

On a rainy day you can visit the Owls Head Transportation Museum next to Rockland (about 3 miles from US 1) or the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland or one of the little cafes in Rockland.

Altogehter it's a wonderful place to stay.

A Wonderful Getaway

My family enjoyed a wonderful and beautiful vacation in this home. It is away from it all--a half hour away from some cute harbor towns, but on a lake so you never feel landlocked. It is a half mile from a quaint euro style deli/grocery/restaurant with a friendly staff, where you can get a nice breakfast or lunch (except on Wednesdays) if you don't feel like cooking in the great fully equipped kitchen. A lobster pound is about 6 miles away. Your host lives in a neighboring town and is extremely friendly and gracious; very helpful, but very considerate of your privacy. The home itself is just lovely. My family (children age 5, 8, and 23) enjoyed sightseeing along the coast some of the afternoons then spending the evenings canoeing and hanging around the home. The little kids enjoyed the openness of the house and yard and never wanted to leave--they would have been happy to stay around the house all day canoeing, fishing, blowing bubbles in the backyard and playing games and music. If you choose this place, you will want to take good care of it because it's very very nice and you will want to return as we do.
