Welcome to Shepherdstown. Step back in time, while enjoying the comforts of a quaint country cottage, and walk to restaurants, shops, cafes, theater and university functions. Celebrate the seasons of Shepherdstown with 4th of July parades, ice cream socials, the Rumsey Radio Hour, the annual crossing of the Potomac River, Santa arriving by antique horse and buggy, an Easter Egg hunt, and so much more. Visit the areas numerous Civil War Battlefields (Antietam, Sharpsburg, Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown), including several local museums, and still be home in time to walk to restaurants for dinner and a movie. For outdoor enthusiasts, there is biking and hiking on the C&O canal - bring your own equipment or rent it in town. In the warmer months rafting and tubing are nearby on the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers. Shop the Prime Outlet Mall in nearby Hagerstown or Leesburg, or the artisans of nearby towns such as Harpers Ferry, Boonsboro, Waterford, Hillsboro and historic Frederick MD.

You're sure to find the perfect spot to stay, eat and shop here - all uniquely Shepherdstown. Come to the acclaimed Contemporary American Theater Festival and classical music performances at Shepherd University, or listen to live music at local restaurants and pubs. The C&O Canal is less than a mile away, with biking and hiking along the Potomac River; several outfitters in Harpers Ferry offer rafting and tubing adventures. We are only five minutes from Harpers Ferry and Antietam National Parks.

Notes: There is access to the pool, hot-tub, and gym at the nearby Clarion Hotel for $5 guest pass, each visit. The new Wellness Center at Shepherd University is also open to the Public, and I suggest you call for hours and rates during your visit. We are child/pet friendly, with a completely fenced yard for their safety and enjoyment. Golf is available at several nearby public courses, and for an additional charge and advance notice, golf and lessons can be arranged at nearby private country club.A Red Cross certified babysitter can also be arranged.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming, well-appointed, lovely decorated cottage and are already booked for several more stays. The location in easy walking distance to all the college, shops and wonderful restaurants of Shepherdstown was great, and despite being on the 'main road' (by small-town standards) the house was VERY quiet. The owner has very thoughtfully provided many touches that make the stay very comfortable. Kudos to the housekeeping staff as it was immaculate upon arrival and well stocked with everything needed. We hated to leave and can't wait to come back.
