room with a view

Lovely away-from-it-all setting, with a spectacular view across the valley to Castiglione in Teverina. As we drove up the winding track from the main road we wondered if we would ever find it, but it was well worth it when we did, and the road got shorter as we got more used to it.
Maria, Gianni and Thomas were wonderful hosts: so helpful, warm and friendly, nothing too much trouble for them.
Too hot to walk (unseasonable for September), but a wonderful change after Britain's worst summer on record, and a good excuse for pottering around a seemingly endless supply of mediaeval hill top citadels and villages within half an hour's drive. A wonderful introduction to rural Italy.
The cottage (Erika) was perfect for our purposes, clean and well-equipped. When we arrived without supplies, having not realised how far it was to the shops, Maria rustled round and provided us with breakfast necessities. And later in the week invited us to supper with her family and the other guests, a really enjoyable evening.
And with our other halves absent (one of them in Africa) it was handy to have internet access.
