In Perugia alone, there is so much history and culture. You will not run out of things to see and do. Not to mention, the city center itself is ideal for strolling, shopping, dining and enjoying the cafe life.
In summer or winter, one can take advantage of the international wineries closeby or museums and sites of medieval cities.
There are also plenty of activities on the Trasimeno Lake (20. min drive) for the family such as sunbathing, pedal boats or ferry rides to the 3 islands.
Umbria also offers winter activities such as skiing and snowboarding.
Most of all, don't forget to check out the many festivals held in Umbria year-round. There are 2 major jazz festivals, one in summer, one in winter. There are specialty food festivals in the different towns.
