Our family arrived after a long flight, and a three hour drive from San Jose, only to find the tranquil and friendly reception at Villas Las Flores to be the exact recipe for our needs. The accommodations were spacious, clean and inviting. We spent the ensuing weeks frolicking in the ocean, taking long solitary walks on the beach, horse back riding, as well as trying the local canopy tour (longest Zip line in Puntarenas). It was refreshing to spend a vacation in a beautiful lush tropical, oceanfront setting, yet adjacent to a small working town, where real people make their living in the melon fields, the rice paddies, teak farming, and harvesting the oil from African palms. We have made, what we believe will be life-long friendships during our two visits to Villas Las Flores. I am sure we will be back! Lisa Randall, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
History:
Roger Mainville arrived from Montreal, Canada in 1991 with a dream of creating a tropical retreat on 23 acres of ocean front at Playa Palo Seco. Two years later, the first seven villas were completed on grounds described by an early owner as a 'Potato Field' Since then a total of forty single story Villas in single , duplex, triplex, and fourplex configurations have been completed. A large central pool with adjacent rancho, and connecting community kitchen have been constructed. More than 1200 trees and bushes have been planted throughout the property, with the express purpose of attracting a diverse bird, and butterfly population. A small on-site laguna, and the adjacent Parrita river, offer additional attractions. No wonder that Roger has come to view his dream as embodying an aura of 'The Fifth Element'
Recent Developements:
Lars-Eric Unestahl, a Psychology Professor, arrived from Sweden in 2003, and was immediately enamored with the idea that this location was the perfect spot for coaching, mental training, and 'think tank' gatherings to enhance the wellness of ourselves, as well as our fellow human beings. To this end, he built a small conference center, adjacent to Villas Las Flores, and from time to time brings small groups from around the world, for teaching and exchange of ideas. It has been a real joy to meet and getting to know members of Lars-Eric's groups--people ranging from contractors to taxi drivers, national hero firemen, opera singers, plumbers, deans, and teachers. My wife, and I, try to time our visits to Vilas Las Flores to coincide with those of Lars-Eric
