Great for a getaway with small children...

Pros:
My wife and I had a very relaxing time with our 19 month old son. The house was charming and very well done in the remodel. The open floor plan and upgraded amenities were great. The pool table and back deck were also great. The beach was fantastic. The reason I suggest this location for small children is that the depth of the water is perfect for them. When the tide was out there were vast areas where it was only a few inches deep and perfect for our son to run through and play in. The beach itself was very clean. The town was a little slow but we enjoyed it. Cape Charles is definitely a declining vacation town. However, we found all that we needed with a nice coffee shop and a couple of adequate places to grab a bit to eat. A major grocery store (Food Lion) is not far from the location. Our location, in particular, was good because we were two blocks from the main street and two blocks from the ocean. Everything was an easy stroll. Also, the streets were so quiet that we were very comfortable letting our son stroll with us on the sidewalk. Hardly a car would be seen while walking around. I guess it will be busier in the summer months, but still much quieter than some of the larger vacation towns.
Cons:
Some of the finer details in the house needed a little mending. Small, decorative pieces of the furniture needed to be glued in place and were quickly ferreted out by our son. We just set them aside so as to avoid future worry. Another little detail was the triangle for the pool table was broken. Also, being unable to find a wine opener or tea kettle in the house was a huge bummer but we were creative enough to get past those obstacle. These are cheap, simple things to fix so we were a little surprised that they were not remedied. Our only major complaint was that the DSL internet was not working while we were there. This was not a huge deal. My issue with it was the lack of responsiveness on the part of the renting agency. After discussing it with the property manager, we placed a call and they said they would call back. They never did and did not seem to care all that much about our problem. I know it was a Friday afternoon, but handling vacation rentals requires a little more effort than 9 to 5, M to F. I have a rental on Homeaway myself (property #158144) so I do not think I am being unreasonable to expect the details be attended to.
All in all it was great. We hope to go back soon.
