Photos and Description of this Lexington holiday house 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

Rose Hill is one of the 7 historic Rockbridge County 'Hill' homes. Located on a 370 acre farm 10 minutes from Lexington, Rose Hill offers panoramic mountain views, ponds, springs and a wildlife preserve. Wild turkey roam the farm amid the cows. Numerous birds, from blue birds, pheasants, geese and song birds are seen along with a wide variety of wild flowers. Private and secluded, it offers a great casual get away. The 1820 brick home has original woodwork, mantles, heart pine (now extinct) floors and 4 original fireplaces. The modern addition has a newly remodeled kitchen and a large sunporch, shaded by an enormous 200 year old pecan tree. Imagine life of the early 1800's as you walk down the hall steps. Walk up the field to an 1850s cemetery. Sit outside and enjoy the views of the fields and climb the hill to view spectacular sunsets.

  • The large and spacious Master Bedroom has a queen bed facing the original fireplace. The original high windows look out at tree top level across the fields. There is a dressing room off the bedroom. It has the original 1820 private stairway to the first floor. There is a DVD player in the bedroom. The large guest room has a queen and double bed and a working fireplace. It is furnished in period family furniture.

Notes: There is a large beautiful sunporch across the back of the home that opens onto a small deck where the barbeque is located. You look out from the sun porch on a magnificent 200 year old Pecan tree as well as large vista of fields where you can watch the cows roam, see wild turkey, deer and other birds and animals. It has 2 dining tables, a nice sitting area and provides a great gathering place. The Kitchen is off the sunporch and is newly remodeled and fully equipped. It is an open kitchen with a dining area that seats 6 as well as a desk and TV area. The bathroom is off this room also. It also provides a good space for gathering. There is a large screen TV and DVD player in another room, the study, with 2 sofas. For outside sitting and dining there is a table that seats 6 in the front yard as well as 4 chairs and 2 end tables that sit on the front porch. You can also sit on the barbeque deck.

Our stay at RoseHill was a delightful one, The house and property is alive with history and beauty. The surrounding cow pastures kept us interested and entertained watching for wild turkey, ground hog, and deer. Our family of 5 was able to relax comfortably and the home was perfect for entertaining guest. We were only minutes away from W&L and VMI and the charm of downtown Lexington

Stayed at Rose Hill while visiting our daughter at VMI. The house was more than we expected as was the surrounding property. If you love history you will love Rose Hill. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. Short drive to VMI and Lexington. Convenient to major highway.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers
