Excursion possibilities: If you want to see more than Breslau, there are many possibilities for trips. From the Cathedral and from the passage bridge ‘Most Zwierzyniecki’, there are hourly excursion boats of the Oder flotilla. You will be offered charming views! Trzebnica/Trebnitz (19 km): The three-nave Monastery of Trebnitz is the oldest Roman brick building in Silesia. An important detail is the Tympanon relief on the west side, which is dated back in 1230, and it depicts the King David playing the lute in front of the throne of the Queen Batseba. In the early Gothic Hedwig Chapel is a baroque tomb of the beloved duchess, who was entombed here in 1243. Leubus (27 km to the West): here you can find the oldest Silesian Cistercian Monastery, which impresses with its gigantic size and its terrible history. In order to renovate the 341m long façade of the baroque building and the 300 rooms, 6 ha floor needed to be restored.

Further places of interest: Zobten: Zobten rises from the flat ground and reaches 718 m. Here the oldest history of Silesia starts to shape itself: In prehistoric times, Illyrians, Scythians and Celts settled here. Mysterious stone sculptures (‘The Virgin with the Fish’, ‘The Bear’, ‘The Wolf’, ‘The Mushroom’ and ‘The Monk’) invite you to speculate. Swidnica/Schweidnitz: Here you have to visit the Evangelical ‘Peace Church’ (Friedenskirche) of the St. Trinity, which has a baroque architecture and it is located on the 7500 People Square. Kreisau: It is located 5 km south east from Schweidnitz. In Kreisau you can find the property of the family von Moltke, where members of the resistance group ’Kreisau Circle’ gathered. Most of the conspirators were executed after the unsuccessful assassination attempt against Hitler, on July, 20th 1944. Nowadays, the property has been transformed into a German- Polish meeting hall.
