Crossville holiday cottage

Tennessee Plateau Vacations now has two homes: Located in the National Historic District on the Cumberland Plateau in Crossville, Tennessee. 'Winter Storm' has been renovated and is available for vacation rental. 'Summer Breeze' is presently being remodeled, and will be available next year. They are only two of the 250 homes built during the Great Depression as one of President Franklin Roosevelt's programs to teach new skills to out-of-work and destitute people and get them back to work. These men also built schools and churches in the community. A park built for community recreation later became Cumberland Mountain State Park, and is one mile from 'Winter Storm.' Many government agencies assisted in the training program. When World War II began, these men were trained and ready to go to work at the new Oak Ridge, Tennessee Manhatten Project, where the Atom Bomb was made that ended the war. There are two museums in the Historic District to tell the story of these people who part of 'The Greatest Generation.'
