The stunning Japanese style house, with its guest house, is located on the beach by the small fishing village of Cabuya. The sun rises directly in front of the house over the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Nicoya. Costa Rica’s first national wildlife reserve is located a short distance to the south, at the tip of the peninsula. Provisions are available in Cabuya, and several excellent local eateries provide a variety of cuisines. Montezuma,with its beautiful beaches, many restaurants and activities, is just three miles up the beach to the North. There are special spots to swim and explore between Montezuma and the Wildlife Reserve. Dos Iguanas was inspired by the clean and simple style of traditional Japanese architecture.The house is a sincere and successful expression of a natural philosophy that invites surrounding scenery into the living spaces. Your stay will most likely include a visit by the local tribe of howler monkeys. Ask about spillover space in our guest house.

  • The spacious master room, upstairs, features breezes and the sound of the surf. The breezy bedroom at tree-top level, features a double bed and a single bed. There is plenty of room for a cot (available), a futon or air mattresses. Sliding panels in the walls provide complete privacy and security when desired; you may choose to sleep open-air style, to the sound of the surf and morning Howler Monkey calls.. Overhead fans provides comfort when needed. The bedroom ceilings features the beautifully constructed post and beam design. There are chairs, side tables, night tables, a bureau and a wardrobe for clothing. The downstairs room is a combination sitting room/bedroom with a single bed, opening directly to the beach. It may be closed and secured. There are chairs and a wardrobe.

You will truly feel you have been AWAY. The living is al fesco; you may be visited by hummingbirds, parakeets or even toucans. An iguana or two will surely pass by as you dine on the porch. Here you are one with nature: there is no escaping it! Neighborhood fishermen will be glad to take you out to hunt your supper or bring back their fresh catch to you. In fact, they will even prepare your meal!. Homade jellies by Nena, from local fruits, are for sale at the nearby rivers' edge at Nena's home. Cabuya, just up the road, is a typical small Costa Rican village. There are Tico style restaurants, the local Cantina with Costa Rican Beer, a church, grocery store, a fabulous bakery and even a library. The first-ever National Park is down the road for your hiking pleasure.

Space: The main house has one large bedroom upstairs with a queen-size and a single bed. Downstairs is a kitchen, bathroom, eating area, and a second room with a single bed. Both houses offer views of the beach and sounds of the breaking waves. If the monkeys don't wake you, the birds will surely welcome you to your day.

The view of the shore, howler monkeys napping in the branches of the trees behind the house, the sun rising across the sea, all make for an exceptionally beautiful setting. The handsomely designed house with elegant Japanese wood joinery, sliding window shades, and a tiled outdoor dining area is all romantic and beautiful without being ostentatious. I spent hours and hours reading in the hammock, watching parrots, hummingbirds, and tanagers play around in the tree branches above. Sean has great taste and has built a great place. Excellent beaches, great ceviche, and great surfing are all a stone's throw away. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there."
