Completely misleading and unmaintained condo.

My wife and I arrived for a 3 week stay in the evening. The owner, Jeanette, met us, briefed us, and up to that point, all seemed fine. After marketing for food supplies, we went to store them and found the owners 'fridge full of old, opened food, with no room for ours. The cupboards were filthy and the only clean dishes and glasses were on the pre-set dining table. Then: broken glass coffee maker, no toilet tissue, used bathroom linens, old and not fresh bed linens with burn holes, owners walk-in closet packed full with her clothes, no room for ours and dirty laundry throughout: questionable cleanliness of the condo, un-usable tiny 2nd bedroom. We called owner right away, and explained the unit unacceptable. We moved out early the next morning.
We had paid the entire rent amount in advance, and now suggested we would be willing to let owner keep half of the entire 3 week rental fee, if she would refund the remaining half, or a reasonable compromise. We had to seek other accomodation and pay for that.
At first she represented the condo as her property. Upon checking in she asked us to lie to any of her neighbors and the staff and say that we were 'friends' just 'staying' at her place. Then when we requested the refund she said that she was not the owner, but rather, helping the real owner.
However there were photos of Jeanette and her family all throughout the unit.
The location overlooks a frighteningly huge electric power plant, and the bedroom is a very very long flight of stairs up from the rest of the unit. It did not smell good.
And after insisting on 'discussing' our dissatisfaction with the unit, Jeanette refused to do the right thing. Or anything.
Austin is a great town, with lots of other nice places to stay, and lots of really nice people. This person was the only negative in our stay.
Owner's Response: This review was motivated by the renter changing his mind once his first choice hotel became available. Simply I would not refund 100% of the rental for his change of plans as is clearly stipulated in the agreement he signed. For future renters, this property was acclaimed by Homeaway in a syndicated newspaper article as a premier property in Austin. The writer toured the property and can attest to its incomparable views and beautiful condition. Maid service is weekly. This is a brand new market rental with newly purchased sheets, bedding, towels and plates. Receipts are available. The view is noted as one of the best views in Austin, overlooking the lake and city. We invite you to come enjoy your stay in Austin!
