This property backs directly to state land that is adjacent to federal (USFS) land. Consequently, the renters of this home have direct access to thousands of acres of mountain wildlands. Hike right from the house to high alpine lakes. Moose, mule deer, elk, sandhill cranes, eagles, hawks, hummingbirds and other songbirds are frequent visitors. Bear and wolf tracks are often seen when hiking behind the house. Yellowstone National Park is 3 hours away. Bannack ghost town, the first territorial capitol of Montana, is 25 minutes away as is Coolidge ghost town. The Big Hole Battlefield National Monument, nature trails, museum and interpretive center is a beautiful one hour drive from the house. Torrey Ranch Estates includes a small grocery store and 2 small trout fishing ponds for children.

Ski:
Maverick Mountain ski area is 10 minutes from the house as is Elkhorn hot springs for after ski soaking. Local relief at the ski area is 1800 feet with several challenging and intermediate runs and a 200 foot bunny slope. Season depends on snow, but is usually before Christmas through mid-March. Hours are Thursday through Sunday 9:30 - 4; half day starts at 1 PM. Open ALL days Dec. 22 through January 3. Ski equipment rentals and lessons are available. Many cross-country and snowmobile trails at Elkhorn Hot Springs (10 minutes from the house). 'True' backcountry (cross country) skiing directly behind the house on state and national forest lands.
