Family group of 10 just returned from weeklong stay at this property and sister property, Pina Grande. We all enjoyed the especially beautiful private setting, and the well kept conditon of the home. We visited the rain forest with some tour companies, but found the bird life around the houses, just as good or better than the paid for excursions. It was centrally located between some vacation spots along the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, and the towns of Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. The house is very open, and the sounds of the rain forest awaken you each morning. With the open floor plan, there are some bugs and wildlife to contend with, but that may make the rainforest experience, if that is what you are looking for, something to enjoy. There are ceiling fans in the living room and bedrooms, that will keep you comfortable. Bikes could be rented in town for your own transportation, or you could catch the local public bus at the small but very well stocked grocery store down the road, taxi service is also available. Note: walking or bike riding is necessary to get to beach and restaurants and stores. Leo the caretaker, who speaks good English by the way, is always available for assistance if needed, or with his cell phone he can call a taxi if you prefer. There is no phone or wifi available in home, so that could be a plus or minus for you if deciding to stay here. We found some of the local restaurants, of which there are many, most enjoyable and were suprised about the good food we had. One restaurant up the road, at a new Boutique Hotel, was enjoyed by all for its beautiful setting and gourmet food, although the choices range from local fare and inexpensive to gourmet food. Beaches, found going down the various beach roads were almost deserted to just a few people on them. While beautiful in a natural way, they are not groomed, or raked, they are not free of debris, logs, sticks and anything that floats, so again we all felt it depended on what you were looking for. We found snorkeling to be good at some of the local beaches, as good as we have experienced in Hawaii or Mexico. We would certainly recommend to anyone planning on visitng the area to contact the owner Robin, and you will find she is very helpful. In fact one of the tour guides that took us on a Canopy Tour, asked about the homes, and is hoping to have his group of 10 from the states stay here.
