The house is on a hilltop overlooking Ash Creek and Long Island Sound in the St. Mary's by the Sea section of Black Rock, CT, a historic colonial era community which is adjacent to Black Rock Harbor to the East and Ash Creek to the west. This seaside community has a wonderful promenade around St. Mary's Point and is excellent for walking, running and biking. The harbor is home to a large fleet of sailboats and two yacht clubs, which sponsor active sail racing programs year-round, including an active 'Big Boat' program and winter 'frost-bite' regattas in Ideal 18's and other classes. Ash Creek is a tidal estuary with great kayaking or canoeing, great fishing and birdwatching with an osprey nest, egrets, Great blue herons and waterfowl.
The community is close to New York City, 45 miles, and New Haven, home of Yale University, 20 miles. New York is the daily destination of many residents who commute on Metro-North into Grand Central Station in the City. The house would be a comfortable getaway location, a home for short term work re-locations, and a central base for exploring the many destinations of the Northeast. Boston is 2.5 hours away, and excellent skiing in Vermont is as close as 2.5 hours (Mt. Snow, VT). Tanglewood and the Berkshire, Providence and the Rhode Island seashore and beaches and the New Jersey seashore and beaches are short drives away.
