Eco-friendly accommodation:
The City Lights Empire State Suite is managed by City Lights LLC, the leading serviced and vacation apartment company in New York City. The Empire State Suite and our other City Lights apartments are the only environmentally-friendly serviced apartments in New York. We are trying to have as little impact on environment as possible – the apartment is not perfect yet but it is getting there. We are using only eco-friendly cleaning supplies and recycled materials for all the paper and glass that we use in the apartment. We have signed a special contract with the electric company to ensure that we use only electricity generated by wind and water – it costs a little more but we think it is worth it! We also try to use as much recyclable materials as possible. Nowadays everyone has to be thinking about the impact on our planet, and it’s the little things like this that start to make a difference.
Surroundings:
On the block where the apartment is situated (37th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues) you can find anything and everything, you literally don’t have to leave the block if you don’t want to. You’ve got a great New York steakhouse right next door (Frankie and Johnny’s Steakhouse) where you can enjoy a great steak with a glass of wine. Just across the street you have the Magazine Café where you can get any magazine that you like (they even have foreign magazines!) and enjoy a coffee and a snack. On the corner of 37th Street and 5th Avenue one can find one of the most famous and cozy New York bakeries – Au Bon Pain, here you can get a good breakfast or lunch with freshly baked bread and pastry. You also have a lot of shopping on your block, as well as anywhere around you – you are in the heart of New York’s Fashion District!!! There are 4 different banks on the corner of 37th Street and 5th Avenue, so you won’t have a problem withdrawing money for shopping!
Transportation:
The Port Authority bus terminal is about 20 minutes by foot from the apartment – you can catch a bus from the airport right there at any time. You will probably prefer to catch one of New York’s inexpensive yellow cabs from the bus terminal to the apartment if you have a lot of bags. The ride should cost you about $5. So basically, you do not need a metro card with such a location – just walk, enjoy the weather, views and shopping.
If you need to use the Subway, you have at least 3 stations to choose from, each less than a 5 minute (3 short blocks) walk away. The first one is the 5th Avenue stop (7 train) located on the corner of 5th Avenue and 42nd Street. This subway line goes to Queens (La Guardia Airport) and starts at 42nd street. The second subway stop near you is 42nd Street – Bryant Park (B,D,F,V trains) which is right on the corner of 6th Avenue and 42nd Street. The third subway stop near you will be 34th Street – Herald Square (B,D,F,V,N,Q,R,W trains).
