Casa di Giocche is a two bedroom house in the hamlet within the walls of the medieval Castle of Montalto. Montalto lies in one of the loveliest parts of the Chianti area of Tuscany and is very centrally located for art touring. The owners, who live in the castle and farm an estate of 700 acres, offer the carefully restored old house in its little hamlet for rent to vacationers seeking a quiet country atmosphere. The house is tastefully furnished and equipped with cooking and table ware, bed linens and towels. It has a private area for outside dining, a fireplace and a washing machine. Tenants share use of the swimming pool, tennis court and TV room and are assisted with information on local restaurants and other necessities. Farm products are for sale to tenants. Housekeeping can be arranged.

The nearest train stations are found at 12 km (trains to the south) and 18 km (trains to the north). There is no convenient bus service.

  • Discounts are available for long rentals.
  • Rates include kitchenware, sheets and towels (exchanged weekly), weekly cleaning, water, gas and electricity, heating, firewood, swimming, tennis and other sports facilities, and all taxes. An extra bed can be added at extra charge only for an infant or a child up to 12 years of age. Racquets and bicycles are available for use without charge.
  • If desired, breakfast can be served in the former Granary of the Castle. Breakfast will consist in : coffee, tea, milk and yoghurt, cereals, breads, honey and jam, and fruit juice, served informally on paper plates every day from 8:30 to 11 a.m. (Sunday from 9). The price is 25 Euro per person for the week. You can also try the service by the day at the price of 5 Euro per person. Half price for children under 10.

The castle farm: The castle farm produces very good olive oil, which is available for direct purchase along with Chianti wine, honey, fresh eggs and vegetables in season. A reading room at the castle offers an extensive library of English and Italian books (some German).

Special services may be organized upon request: cleaning and ironing, occasional cooking, baby-sitting, multilingual guides, art and winery tours. Lessons can be provided in cooking, horseback riding, Italian language, sketching and art history. Weddings can be arranged in the lovely chapel, with receptions for up to 100 people.
