Numerous side valleys radiate out from Mariapfarr. With up to 1000m difference in elevation they offer an ideal environment for hiking and mountain biking that fulfils each individual's needs. If you would rather travel without a car, the environment-friendly 'Tälerbus' (valley bus) transports you to your destination and will pick you up. By using the 'Tälerbus', you reduce the car traffic in the sensitive alpine valleys. An 18-hole-golf-course with driving-range, challenges both beginners and professionals alike. It is pure enjoyment to ride your bicycle on the well-built net of bicycle paths in the middle of the impressive scenery of the Lungau's mountain peaks . A ride on the Lungau's small-track train , which was put into service in 1894 is enjoyable for young and old.

Over 200 km ski slopes and over 30 lifts are offered by the 5 Lungau ski areas; Fanningberg, Aineck , Katschberg , Großeck-Speiereck und Obertauern. A free ski bus takes guests to their chosen ski areas. 220 km of cross country skiing tracks give the Lungau the reputation as the 'largest connected net of cross-country skiing tracks in Austria'. In winter, walking in the deep snow on trails that wander through the beautiful Lungau scenery is an unforgettable experience. A winter walk has its special flair at any time of the day.
