The house, of approximately 80 square meters has one living and dining room, three twin bedrooms (two on the ground floor and one on the first floor), a bathroom with shower and a kitchen. The kitchen is fully supplied with a cooking area with four stoves, oven, refrigerator, cupboards, a round table and barbecue area. On the first floor there is a room with a king size bed. From this room you can access to the terrace from which it is possible to see an immense panorama.

The Modesto cottage is a country house contructed around 1885 with the purpose of having a millstone with a press used the wine by pressing the grapes. The land of approximately 4 hectares, where this cottage was built, was in fact at that time entirely cultivated to vineyard later on. The vineyard is afterwards aged with the years and replaced by hundred-year old olive trees and later on also by almond trees. The house, thanks to its panoramic position, is placed at 380 meters on the sea level and during the last world war it has been used by the army to control the surrounding areas. During the eighties the house has been subject to a general restoration. The house is located in Fanelli suburb, at about 5 km from Castellana Grotte on the road that goes to Alberobello from which it is approximately 14 km distant. It is about 20 km reach the beaches of Capitolo and Polignano a mare.

Notes: The Kitchen: on the ground floor you access through the entry door to a welcoming and characteristic room with barrel vault, where there are the ancient press, the millstone, the alcove and a small kitchen with an ancient but not working fireplace. The house does not have any heating system and for this reason it is not available during the winter months. The access to the house is made possible through a tree-lined avenue and it is surrounded by a wide and enlightened courtyard entirely covered by stones. The garden furniture and the garden itself are particularly taken care of by the owner. The Modesto cottage is an ideal solution for those who are looking for a simple, calm, silent place but at the same time characteristic and perfectly integrated in the ecology of the Murgia lands. The proximity to the sea and to the most important tourist centres of Puglia, the fair and not expansive price make it extremely attractive also to families with children

Wir waren im Spätherbst (22.10 - 26. 10) in der Unterkunft 'Torre di Modesto' in Catellana Grotte: rundum Olivenhaine, der Frühnebel zieht aus den Tälern hoch - dennoch wärmt bereits die Sonne beim Frühstückskaffee; wenn ein Tag so beginnt! Die Unterkunft war mehr als zufrieden stellend. Die Lage, etwas abseits (wie beschrieben), aber ein Traum! Resümee: Wir möchten auf alle Fälle wieder einmal (und dann nicht nur ein paar Tage) hinfahren und können diese Unterkunft nur jedem empfehlen.
