Banyuls sur mer – rustic Mas in the vineyards region
This 15th century Mas is in a tranquil location in the Banyuls vineyards. It’s about 2 km from the beach and the town. Surrounded by 3 hectares of well-maintained grounds, the 700 m drive is not tarred. Facilities are simple comfortable with terra cotta tiles, new and antique style elements and furnishings, giving a lovely atmosphere to this welcoming house, 160 m 2 on two floors with high ceilings. The upper floor contains a living / dining room 45m² with fitted kitchenette, two bedrooms 25m² and 15m². The lower floor contains a living room 20m², bathroom with shower and WC, 3-bedroom with round arch 30m². There are 7 beds. Thick stone walls keep you cool in the summer. The house is surrounded by shady terraces. You can take breakfast there in your pyjamas and have dinner by candlelight under the twinkling stars.

Banyuls is a lovely Catalan coastal town with lots of facilities where the eponymous aperitif wine is produced. It is a popular holiday resort with restaurants, beach cafes, summer concerts, a boat harbour and a popular beach. Attractions include wine cellars, the scientific aquarium, the studio of the sculptor Aristide Maillol, the 12th century chapel and the unique scenery: the Pyrenees with their many walkways, the conservation diving areas of the Mediterranean and the Roussillon with its green valleys and ancient cloister sites where summer concerts are held. The coastal road leads directly into nearby Spain with Salvadore Dali in Cadaques and in Figueras. Perpignan’s castle, the original old town and the Impressionists’ Collioure are easy to get to. Marine activities include diving and sailing courses, boat trips, wind and wave-surfing.

| Notes: | Electricity is provided by solar panels and batteries; it has plenty of capacity and allows summer use of fridge, freezer, coffee machine, washing machine and other electrical equipment. However we do ask you to keep the battery indicator in mind. Hot water for bathroom and kitchen is from bottled gas, also hot water for the washing machine. Water is from cisterns filled in springtime and replenished in the summer. |
Steps and ramps
The hillside location of the house leads to arranged terraces providing shade at any time of the day. Those terraces are nicely structured on different levels.
The grounds and vineyards
This three hectare site with a plateau and the hillside is a paradise for children and anyone who loves Mediterranean trees and flowers. Children can play to their heart’s content, while the Korkeichen wood nearby offers plenty of places for tree houses etc. Till June there are two tiny streams in the grounds, which dry up in summer. The hillsides are structured with small stone walls called “murettes”, and we ask you not to touch them. We also request you not to enter the surrounding vineyards; farming can be difficult and farmers need their income. Thank you in advance, adults and children alike.
