Mermaid House Exceeds Expectations

From the outset, renting Mermaid House was a delightful transaction. Communication with the owners and the housekeeper was clear, enjoyable, and extremely helpful. The house is very generously equipped (high kudos for the kitchen) and furnished, going above and beyond what their website may include. For example: original art, telescope, current DVD's, intriguing books, floaties that stay inflated, enough plates, glasses, and silverware to entertain half the island. The property is very clean and well maintained. The floor plan affords a lot of privacy between bedrooms, with all of them opening onto a gorgeous wrap-around deck. There is ample seating for lounging, dining and sunning. (I'm always perplexed by rentals that offer more bed space than chairs! Not this one!) I noticed a crib and a toddler bed in the house. The view is gorgeous and the beach is great for swimming and walking (particularly at low tide). Within 15-20 minutes of the house is another beach (Cocoplum) with lazy wave action and depths allowing one to wade, seemingly, for miles. Renting a boat and visiting nearby cays is highly recommended and easy for even novice boaters. Food selection is a bit limited on the island, so you may want to bring some favorite items from home. Restaurant menu offerings are similar to one another and somewhat limited--a concession to make for a beautiful, unspoiled, moderately developed local. (We tried to eat at locally-owned establishments so this comment reflects no experience with the restaurant offerings at the Four Seasons.) The owners and housekeeper are determined to assist in making your stay delightful, and the people of Exuma are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. At your request, a bottle of rum will be waiting on the counter and a package of lobster tails in the refrigerator. We hope to visit again!
